I think what you'll notice in looking at the white women that got involved with black men before the mid 20th century is that they all had serious family and mental problems. Jackson was an extremely abusive adulterer, something that is very glossed over in the modern PC glorification of him by people like Burns, but he wasn't responsible for his wife's suicide, she was a very troubled woman, which is why she would get involved with him. The other type being like his final wife who was a narcissistic activist type who wanted to shock and offend people. That's the plain truth for the era.
