What happened to this franchise?

The first two are awesome. They're great films, made very well. Did someone leave during these last two?

Yes. Someone did leave. Andrew Adamson. The director if the first two films.

The third while not as strong as the first two but still holds up okay.

The third wasn't that bad. Last one sucked.

I haven't seen the last one yet, but watched the first three over the last couple of weeks (only saw the first one when it came out, never the sequels) - I have to say I enjoyed the second one more than the first, and while a bit all over the place the third was a lot of fun too.
