I Felt Sorry For Prince Charming

Prince Charming was a jerk but I really didn't think he worked as a full-on villain. He was so hopeless, barely evil, and actually had a pretty decent reason for loathing Shrek and his popularity. He had been brought up in a world where everyone loved him and his mother, and then his mother dies - albeit by her own hands - and the world turns its back on him. It still might have worked, had his character not been constantly humiliated throughout the film. Instead of making him evil and detestable, the audience is encouraged to laugh at his misfortunes, and then rejoice when he is killed. I don't know, maybe it sounds lame, but I feel like the film took on a fairly bullying attitude towards his character.

Yeah, I agree. At the beginning it seemed way too cruel that the audience was full on laughing/jeering him, after his mother (who was very close to him) DIES. I couldn't really overlook it. I mean, he wasn't that bad, he was just following what his mother wanted, so the cruelty directed at him seemed unwarranted.
It was also kind of lazy that they couldn't be bothered to come up with a new villain and rehashed the old one.
Overall, it just seemed lazy and mean-spirited, and honestly I felt a bit mean watching the guy suffer, and yes, it did come across as bullying.
