Will Young?

Many pop stars make bad actors. How is he in this movie. I have not seen it but it's going to be released here very soon.

reply

Will is not a bad actor. He was going to go to drama school at the age of about 12 or 13 but decided to go to boarding school with his twin brother. He had a scholarship to ArtsEd School in London before he entered Pop Idol.

He also had to have eight auditions with the director and producers. They wanted to make sure he was right for the role. Bob Hoskins (Vivian Van Damm) says of Will "I have never seen someone so talented - he can do everything."

Will is a unique talent in that he can act, dance, sing, write songs and is also a very intelligent man, having read Politics and university.

Not to mention absolutely gorgeous.

Well you've answered your own question. You haven't seen the movie, so you don't KNOW whether he is good or bad.

I just got back from seeing it, and he is in the movie not because he's a pop star, but because he can act. And certainly, in the company of Dame Judi Dench and Bob Hoskins he doesn't come across as out of place.

Don't judge him before you have seen it.

reply

Im not judging him. I just wanted to know if he is good.

reply

Yes, he is good. In fact he is excellent and has won praise from Dame Judi and Bob Hoskins who says he has tremendous talent and will go far. Dame Judi says he will take off "like a rocket" and his acting is "ace". She also said "full marks on the willy scene!"

he is an ace actor hu fitted the role of bertie perfectly - he also had a very nice arse - bit disapointed u didnt see his weeeweee!

reply

I think that it might have distracted the cinema audience from what Ihave heard! However, if you look you can just see a glimpse!

reply

I'd never heard of him before, but when I saw the movie I thought he was a strong actor. Not brilliantly amazing, but very good, and I wouldn't have guessed he wasn't a professional actor.

Glad you thought Will was good. He has a large army of dedicated fans in the UK and we all were so excited to learn he was in this film with Dame Judi and Bob Hoskins.

There is a page on this site specifically for Will if anyone wants to look.

I didn't even realise it was Will Young until about half way through the movie (I'm not a fan of his, plus I didn't read the description on the box when I first rented it). I thought he was great. His singing, dancing and appearance suited the period perfectly, and I found his face to be very expressive and entertaining. Not the most handsome of actors/singers in my opinion (sorry to all Will Young fans!), but he was very good in this movie. An excellent movie debut!

reply

I find Will incredibly gorgeous to look at - so much character in his face unlike some of the Hollywood actors who all look the same. His body isn't bad either!

Some of the photos he has had taken recently (Attitude, Guardian etc) show that he is really photogenic.

reply

I thought he was good in the movie and for his first film role he definately held his own against Dame Judi Dench and Bob Hoskins... But he was hardly in it and when he was, he doesn't say all that much...having said that, I'm definitely looking forward to seeing him in other stuff!
I think what worked with Will in Mrs Henderson Presents is that he has alot of screen presence!!
I just read another thread on here that was commenting on his performace of 'All The Things You Are'... I thought that was such a moving performance and it worked so well with Will's talents!
Nice that we got to see a glimpse of Will's other "talents" (aka his "weewee") haha ;-)

I know but he's a waste on us womenkind cuz he is actually gay! *sob* He, very bravely, came out the morning after he won the Pop Idol contest! I remember that day....the papers where plastered with a picture of him on the front with big huge red Capital letters saying, "I'm Gay!!" i remember being slightly depressed!! lol

It wasn't the day after he won but a month after. 10 March 2002. He went to Cuba the day after for a week to film the videos for Evergreen and Anything Is Possible.

his actins good but his singing insnt. its a bit weir d bicause thomnas allen's init as well and hes like the daddy of singing

reply

Just a few more words.

I live in the US and had never heard of Will Young. However, his voice is so intense... I was absolutely captivated by this boy's singing, I was riveted. He captures the sound and feeling of that era so brilliantly, I think he's one of the strongest components of the film and it was genius to have cast him in that role. At two points I was moved near to tears just on the strength of that voice.

After watching the film tonight I came to IMDB to find out a little about him and I was all like AH... Pop Idol ~no wonder!

Have you looked at his page on these forums? There is a lot more detail and some hilarious posts!

And yes, I do agree with you. He has an amazing voice. I have just acquired a CD of him singing at a small concert he did last year. Superb!

His official website is www.wyoung.co.uk and his unofficial site (Devoted) is www.williamyoung.biz

Both are thriving and you can get loads of information from either site.

I thought Will Young was very good. He didn't over act or anything. He was cute.

i wish the ring had never come to me.

reply

will young has a great voice and fully deserves to be where he is today in the uk

reply

Yes... I can see that, and on this side of the pond we were fortunate to discover him through Mrs Henderson Presents. Forever now, I'll be a fan. :)

reply

I'd never heard of him before ssing this movie, and was actually surprised to read here on IMDB that he's a pop star in the UK, not a theatre actor. I don't know how he'd do in other roles, but he was absolutely perfect in this. His voice, dancing, everything, he was exactly like Dick Powell in those Busby Berkly movies from the 30's.

reply

He is to appear in a stage play in Manchester UK in January, February and March. He is playing the lead (Nicky Lancaster) in Noel Coward's The Vortex. I have a ticket and I am looking forward to it very much.

reply

Oh, I love The Vortex! Enjoy and let us know how it was. :D
