Question about Maureen *spoilers*

Did she die or was she just severely hurt?

I've just watched it, and she was lying very limp in Bertie's arms (I think it was him)and the way everyone reacted I'm positive she died.

She did die, as far as I'm aware. But the thing that really annoyed me about that scene was the fact that there was no blood, dirt or anything! She looked like she was asleep. She should have been in pieces if the bombing was as close as it appeared. I just thought that that scene was just very cheesy - surely it would have been better if they had Mrs. Henderson and co. at the side, looking all upset and either Mr. VD or a policeman coming over and saying that she had died?

reply

The Windmill got a direct (or near direct) hit, I think Maureen would be dead. But yes, I agree, her body looked too clean.

I completely agree, it was a weak moment in the film, shame they didn't give the scene more authenticity or handle it "off screen" as you suggested

reply

I agree - and what about Bertie? Van Damm, just at the theatre door, was blown backwards and off his feet by the blast - you would think Bertie, who was ahead of him and had gone out into the street, would have been blown to bits. A rather sanitised scene, I feel.

Many victims in bombing raids die of concussion without a mark on them. Rescue personnel often remark on this.

reply

Yes, she is dead.
