FILMED IN MY HOMETOWN!

I was pretty excited to see them filming this movie in my town, and can't wait for it to come out so I can see what I can recognize, unfortunately I couldn't get to meet Paul Giamatti. Drats!

However I was in the same restaurant as Micheal Pitt was at the same time. But I didn't get to talk to him.

I go to school at the University of Florida and had no idea this was being filmed here in Gainesville. Where specifically? Are any parts of Gainesville shown in the movie, I mean as far as landmarks go?

reply

They shot the hero house in a subdivision off NW23rd Ave. Paynes Prarie, downtown University, the Sunoco gas station on NW 8th ave and 6th St. The funeral parlor on Main. A "shotgun" house on NW 11th st north of University. The only location far from tha G was Rainbow Springs.

Lol, not only was this Movie filmed in my hometown, they rented silk flowers from my moms florist, Ben's Flowers and Balloons (they weren't exactly big spenders, but they needed them for a funeral scene) so you will probably see the shops name in the credits somewhere. I am eager to know when this movie is coming out though, I'd like to see it. Its very odd though, a movie being made in a town like Gainesville, but its possible, my mom said that part of Back to the Future was shot here too (don't ask me what part, I don't know).

The Devil's Advocate, starring Al Pacino and Keanu Reeves was also partially filmed in Gainesville, Fl.

reply

Not too odd considering that the author, Harry Crews, went to UF, taught there, and wrote the story specifically for the town. In the book George Gattling's house is located at 1800 NW 8th Ave. That is just north of the student ghetto.

Did anyone see Giamatti on Conan Obrien in late 04?

I've lived Gainesville my entire life, but now I go to college elsewhere. Last year when I was home for Thanksgiving fellow Gainesvillians and I were watching Late Night with Giamatti on it. We all got excited when he said he was working on a movie in Gaineville. But then he started telling Conan about Thanksgiving in the south. He pretty much said we were all hicks who eat turducken (a chicken inside of a duck inside of a turkey) for the holiday. I've never had turducken. I've never seen it, nor have I ever heard of someone else in my town or area eating one for Thanksgiving or ever.
It kind of ruined our spirits.
It's cool he shot a movie there, but I wasn't into the mocking of my hometown.
If you're from Gainesville and you see Giamatti, I say you confront him and call him out on it.

reply

Holy *beep* I was born in Gainesville FA! I was raised there until I was 5. That is so cool.
