Complete and total losers -- all of them

This movie is a perfect example of the type of people held up by Hollywood as "role models" and examples of "success."

First, you start out with a seemingly healthy young man, who choses to sleep in dumpsters, eat out of garbage cans, and generally live like a complete and total shiftless bum. What? Is he retarded or something?

This fine young example of a man then hooks up with basically the dregs of society -- a paparazzi and a "Britney Speares" clone.

And the moral of the story? He finds happiness with the "Diva" and wealth by becoming a reality TV star, with lots of adoring fans.

Nice.

No wonder the Muslims hate us and our culture.

Yechhhh.

You havent even watched the movie, have you. As much as you hate the whole "American dream" concept, this movie shows that this is reality today. If you're lucky, and you know people, that is. If you keep in mind that this movie actually criticises the body and looks focus, and only the director who actually sees the talent behind the dumpster-guy, hires him. I think Allison Lohman does a wonderful job at showing how much she hates herself being used because of her good looks. Furthermore, her character invites a nobody to find out if he can do an effort to survive in the rough environment of a big city.

As you are saying the guy may very well be retarded, or just haven't seen many enough people. Remember, he sleeps in dumpsters, and hasn't got a social intelligence at all. If you hate these kind of movies so much, go slaughter "Forrest Gump" while you are at it, because it is dealing with the exact same topic; if you get lucky, you may have a chance of living the American Dream. Even if you are retarded.

Anyway, great movie. One of the best romances I've ever seen. Except "Forrest Gump", that is.

He went on to the street because of his parents, was it said how long he was out there for? he was pretty young it might not have been that long.

If first don't succeed, call in Wierzbowski.

Hundreds if not thousands of young and healthy people choose to live a transient lifestyle, or maybe they fall into it temporarily in an attempt to escape a dysfunctional family. Funny how you don't consider this "fine young example of a man" a dreg of society being homeless but you call a paparazzi and a successful singing star dregs of society. Really?

So the homeless young man becomes a successful actor and TV star and hooks up with a beautiful and successful pop singer with lots of adoring fans and they are happy.

Uhhhh... what is wrong with that??!!

How would /you/ prefer the story to go? Perhaps a storyline that a Muslim would appreciate? Very curious.
