I've heard of 'overnight sensations,' but this was ridiculous!

Can someone please explain how a total unknown, who doesn't even have printed headshots, can suddenly become so famous that they have a TV series, offers from "Ridley" and screaming fans? Meanwhile, he's wearing the same clothes he was wearing when he ran out of Les's apartment, and is still arguing with Les over the photos Les took seemingly hours before (you know, back when Toby was merely a homeless photo assistant?)

Really, can someonw explain? Did the IFP channel skip a scene that explains how Toby got cast in a tv series and rocketed to fame?

It could have been months later from the time he took off from Les's house to the time he became famous. He called that casting director chick and maybe he boned her good or something so she hooked him up with a spot on that show.

This was the only problem I had with the movie as well. It just shows him running out of Les' apartment and then all of a sudden hes acting in a show. Pretty good movie over all though I enjoyed it.

That's kind of Michael Pitt's back story, and how he got cast in Dawson's Creek, so . . .

He was like, 16, from New Jersey, and I don't want to say that he ran away from home, because I'm not sure, and somehow without head shots, he lands a lead gig.

It's not inconceivable. Stranger things have happened in Hollywood and plenty of actors/actresses have been discovered working dead-end jobs and not even considering acting as a career but some agent, director, photog or other industry person sees them and has an epiphany about them. I didn't see it as something that "overnight" seeing as he suddenly was starring in a $90 mil blockbuster movie. It obviously evolved over a certain period that wasn't shown or described during the 15-20 minutes from the time he and Karma met to the finale.
