Thank God we live in the U.S.A

This film should be mandatory for all junior high students.

I'm not sure I agree with that, but I do feel that we ought to know what is going on in other countries, just to prove how free we are. Showing such a video, would bring so many different responses. The violence would bring parents to the school, angry that their children watched such a thing. Seeing children with guns, might spark their own idea, that that is how they should be as well. Its necessary to consider how children think, before allowing them to view (or read for that matter) just about anything. In my own school years, I was forced to see and read things, I certainly would rather not have been subjected to. I wish for our children today, that the school boards make better decisions on what is appropriate in our schools. So far, I have no evidence of this.

The saddest thing, for people like you who say "thank god we live in USA, we are free, and look at those sad guys over there", is that YOUR country has had a lot of impact in causeing the grief of these sad guys. How sad is THAT? this program and many like it should be mandatory in all USA schools in the probably forlorne hope that enough powerful and bright young people see it, grow up and become leaders of the USA and start trying to do the right thing for once.

reply

Are you crazy? that movie is 100% biased and one-sided. let alone the fact that your government supports Israel. this movie would be completely setting stupid things in the minds of these students who chances are, didn't know anything about the situation before.

reply

This film was biased because it did not interview any Isreali solider or government offical and focused more on the Palestinian violence instead. It needed to be neutral but if you showed this to Ariel Sharon he would say "I could do better."

reply

He never get the chance to shoot the other side's story. He got KILLED!!!! how unbias do you need? i've watch the film and i don't see the movie side with anyone. they simply want to interview kids who got caught in this war.

spare me your b.s.

reply

FOR GOD'S SAKE!! u know why the film is biased...because James Miller got shot before he could film the Israeli children and society!! Get that through ur heads. I watched this movie at school and it was bloody brilliant!!

reply

I'm a high school student who just watched this documentary and I thought that it was good for us to see a movie like this. It helps us get an idea of what is going on overthere. I mean sure we only got one side of the story but it probably is very similar on the other side too. Also, I mean yeh it was a little bamish but I mean we are too sheltered from knowing what is going on in our world and we need to know. Also we watched this after studying about the conflict and it was very helpful and moving. I understand that my governemnt support Israel but honestly it is a conflict that has me having equal feelings for both sides. I'm sorry if u felt it was silly for high school students to watch it but it was a very good movie for us to see and I'm not one way or the other on the conflict, I'm just a mere student trying to understand what is going on over there, even though I only saw part of it.

reply

Yes it should be mandatory. Our schools don't teach the whole story when politics are involved. As far as the film being biased, don't forget that there were supposed to be two films: one on Palestinian children and one on Israeli children. If the producer hadn't been murdered by Israeli soldiers, we all would have had a chance to see the second film and get a full picture.

reply

Personally I think the film may be biased against Israel, but overall it serves as a much needed counter balance in the overall mass of pro-Israel media pertaining to the subject. No one ever said documentaries can't present an opinion. To fault this movie for fairly presenting valid opinions is silly. If documentaries are wrong for being biased, we wouldn't have important conscious (and conscience) heightening films by Frederick Wiseman such as Titicut Follies. As for the original subject: I definitely don't think kids should see this fim until they are old enough to grasp the history and meaning of the Palestine/Israel Conflict (which the film doesn't go too heavily into.)

reply

The film would not seem bias had James Miller not been killed by Israel troops, they could have finished the film. They wanted to hear what kids from Israel had to say about all this, but they never had the chance.

reply

Yes I know... but somehow I believe if this had happened, if he had interviewd the Israeli children, it would still have had a very similar message: bigotry, rascism, hate on both sides yes, but it would have painted a very different picture than what the majority of the us media would have us believe... We can only imagine that picture based on the film that was made coupled with knowledge of the crisis, and common sense.. somewhere in either a user review or on one of these boards, an imdb user referred to a statement Michael Moore made along the lines of: The best thing the Palestinians can do is to lay down their weapons and stage a civil rights movement such as in India and as African Americans have done in this country. I'm not quoting but that's the jist... I don't know how everyone feels about Michael Moore but I believe he's a sensible guy. Why would Palestinians need to stage a civil rights movement if they weren't in a similar situation as Moore mentioned?

reply

Eh? some of you people are idiots.

This film is NOT biased....

The film maker that died wanted to tell both the stories from the eyes of each side, but he couldn't because of what happened.

How is it biased? it simply showed what it was like for the children living there...what the heck else were they trying to accomplish?

reply

I'm not an idiot, thanks. Perhaps 'biased' is the wrong word. The film is fairly 'one sided' because of what it depicts and what happened to the director, but my point was that's that's ok, and a welcome balance in the overall Israel/Palestine debate.. Also the fact that he was most likely killed by Israeli soldiers and not the Palestinian militants makes it that much more one sided, but again, when compared to the overwhelming amount of pro-isreal media and literature available, Death In Gaza's one sided perspective, whether it's intentional or a result of circumstance, is not a bad thing.

Maybe it's time people stop thanking God for things?

My plan for ending war. Get rid of all religion. If people stop using religion as as a means of justifying war. They get down to the real problems in their conflicts and solve them. I do not know if God exists; so far I have seen no proof. If I do I will start to believe in God. In the meantime I am not going to waste my time worshipping God. I mean with so many different ways what if I pick the wrong one. And if God does exist wouldn't God rather see me try to help out the less fortunate people in the world as apposed to worshipping God?

I believe the narrator says that James was shot by Bedouin Arabs patrolling the border.......I'm sure they were under the control of the Israeli military.....

Shut up about God, for Christ's sake. God has absolutely NOTHING to do with death in Gaza.

Pretty true Ellis. It would also make the whole of the US congress, who all support Israel, condoning the death and destruction of the Palestinian people. This documentary would never bring me here to start a topic saying: Thank God we live in the U.S.A. I don't know, Maybe its just me but knowing that our taxpayer money goes to Israel to support the IDF and its military might to suppress and kill more poor people all for the 'Greater Israel' just doesn't really feel right.

And this conflict has nothing to do with religion (I mean come on, there are many christians and muslems in gaza and west bank) Its defending their right to LIVE and LIVE FREELY without military checkpoints, curfews, missile attacks, poisonous gas, destruction of their homes, shops, etc. What these people live in looks exactly like the Jewish ghettos of WW2!!! Its so bad that over 2,000 israeli military men are refusing service stating that they will no longer kill and torture innocent civilians. ANd I applaud them, especially in these Orwellian times we live in where War is Peace. Freedom is Slavery. And Freedom Fighters are Militants/Insurgents/Terrorists.

Why is NO ONE talking about this film?? It has 80 something votes and 1 external review?? One would think in a time of political controversy (the US IS waging a war in the middle east) that this shocking and informative film might be more popular.

Oh that's right, the US governemnt doesn't exactly want billions of people witnessing the inhumanity in "Death in Gaza" because that would mean their latest reason for going to war - "we attacked Iraq to make the lives of those poor people better" - would be exposed for the fallacy it is (where's the intervention in Gaza, the Sudan, or any other miserable place?). I guess that makes sense...too bad, it's an incredibly powerful 80 minutes.

Ofcourse this movie is baised and one sided. just the fact that the director was killed by the israeli makes it irrelevant, and when I say irrelevant I dont mean it doesnt show truths, I mean that you can learn from it nothing about the conflict. The fact is that he could easly been killed in a bombing suicide by the palestinians while interviewing israeli children, and by doing so pushing the "blame" to the other side. some of the comments i saw are like "trully shows israeli evil" and such. bull. both sides are inoccent as they are to blame in this conflict. I dont even want to start discussing the lack of moral that there is in the suicide bombing of the palestinians (which try thier best in targeting inoccent children and women) and by the last poll conducted is bieng held by 75% of the palestinians and almost is not existent in the israeli side. I'm not saying that there are none in the israeli side who are without moral but the fact is that most inocent palestiniens (women, children and unarmed men) who get killed by israelies die because they were in close proximity of militant palestinians indivduals (which is more points of low moral grounds where militant palastinians surronds themselfs with civilians).
and furthermore, all of you guys are watching this conflict from outside so using words like "evil" or accusing the israelis for the death of the director (which *is* tragic, im not denying that) is just ignorant. Have anyone of you ever been in the battlezone when its pitch dark? when every second you are worried for your life? when everyday you hear about a friend or fellow soilder who get killed by a small group of palestinians (usually 2-5 people)? I have. and I dont know what they saw or not see that night but i dont blame them for a second. mistakes are bieng made! the last time i checked it isnt disneyland there, its a battlefield, and if you hadnt noticed its also a war.

reply

How can you not learn anything from the conflict from this film? It shows how children live in Gaza, why they don't like the Israelis

The director was killed by the Israelis with no armed palestinians around. They shouting to the soldiers to get their attention and waving a white flag and the soldiers shoot, and when she says "We are british Journalists!" they shoot again. And they keep on firing. Why? Trigger happy?

And this everyday you hear of a death to someone you know? What about the palestinians. Everyday they hear about Israelis destroying their houses, killing their children and discriminate them. The Israelis makes it into a battlefield by occupation. To quote a israelian control post guard: "We are humans. They (palestinians) are animals."

I'm not saying that the palestinians are innocent, but there is no way there will be peace if Israel continues their policy. There are similarities to both Nazi-germany and South-Africa in how Israel is treating the palestinians.

It's Americans fault that israel is allowed to get away with all the atrocities, if the american people stood up and told the goverment that giving billions of dollers a year to finance israeli terrorism is not on.

It's the Palestinians who commit the atrocities, and not Israel.
