Why would a child growing up in the region . . .

. . . feel any differently about Israelis and Jews as the children portrayed in this movie? As someone Jewish, I deeply support Israel, but I can't blindly turn away from the fact that the occupation of the West Bank and Gaza is extremely troubling and that it's completely understandable to me why the people there, and most importantly the children, feel the way they do. I don't have the answers, but the military strategy and politics of long-term (or even permanent) occupation seems to be a disaster wherever it's employed. When the U.S. occupies, it goes out of its way to build schools, hospitals and better housing - and even with this, the U.S. often ends up being despised by the ones we occupy. All I'm saying is there has to be a better way and a better strategy - and I think the right wing political parties in Israel have really led Israel in the wrong direction.
