Ive seen gory movies like the Saw quadrilogy and love them. Ive also seen others like Captivity and Hostel which i fairly enjoyed. But, August Underground.. I mean come what the hell. It was just sick. I couldnt stomach watching anymore. I turned off after i saw the first victim.
I personally dont know how anyone can enjoy watching anything like this.

I enjoy these films for the same reasons that other people enjoy films like Saw\Hostel etc. These are just a little bit more extreme, and drop factors such as storyline, character development etc as these are secondary to the carnage.
As the above poster says, AU is actually reasonably mild compared with the second film Mordum. Definitely check it out dude. It's on a whole new level of sick.

ha, you know i was wondering the same thing, as there isnt much, that im aware of thats banned in the us...again that im aware of, what exactly does it mean for it to be banned? does that make it illegal even to privatly own? or just to sell on shelves and show in public theaters?
im so confused, ive never had to deal with anything being banned when ive gone on the hunt for...well anything...and if it does make it illegal to own, what is the penalty for owning such a thing?

one of the reasons im glad to live here in america...at least as far as i know, not much is banned.

The August Underground movies were first shocking, then boring, then repetitive and bad. It's like a bad porn movie only in gore. It's allright these three were made, but stop it now before it becomes annoying since I "have" to see them, but get bored *beep* listening to these people. It's like watching home videos for 1½ hour. Gore and sadism in itself becomes tedious after 30 minutes, and what's left is silly dialogue and people doing anything to "shock".

My favorite is the second film Mordum, you'll no doubt see why (it's incredible sick & f#cked up, well beyond the first flick).
While the AUs are certainly not for everyone, try and be in the right frame of mind when watching these films, for a start not expecting any traditional plot (these are pseudo-snuff films, the narrative is jumbled non-linear serial killer home video diary "found footage") and preferably over a few beers.

Sorry I didn't mean the Anime (yeah, it's avoidable) I mean the original source material, the Manga comic "Koroshiya 1".
It's truly excellent and makes the film look pretty tame.

"The Marble Hornets" youtube series has disturbed me more than any of these gory types of films. Although, i found "Inside" to be very entertaining.
They mostly come out at night; mostly.
Really I found the whole series so lame..thank god my father in law burned it and the 3rd one was on veoh or I would likely enact this movie on the company that put it out, so fake so dull, like in the 3rd part Penance the lion roars but no pay off ... see it to see what I mean...Hell wait don't bother, so overrated. Oh and The main killer looks like Francis from Pee wee's Big adventure..lmfao
Hilarious! Ah, the hypocrisy, I LOVE IT! You say that the series is lame, fake, dull, and there's a lot of roaring but no payoff. Yet you say if you had bought them you would brutally murder the entire Toe Tag Pictures team. Isn't that a lot of roar and no payoff?
If you felt like you were ripped off and lost the $30 you would've spent on the DVD of one of the films (unless you were stupid and blind-bought the trilogy, in which case it's still under $100) you think that's fair grounds for kidnapping and torturing the people who made the film which you didn't enjoy?
Seriously, it's okay to say you didn't like it, it's okay to say you hated the trilogy, but to threaten the filmmakers with horribly painful deaths just because you lost some money to them is just idiotic, and it makes you sound immature.

I personally dont know how anyone can enjoy watching anything like this - There are people on the Saw/Hostel boards saying the exact same thing about you. Everyone has lines, you draw them yourself and cannot do it for others. You can't say things like 'Hostel is ok, but this is filth and you're sick depraved freaks who should die for watching it!'. I realize you didn't say that but there are many who do.

What can i watch that is "sicker" than this. none of the august underground films were that bad. The cannibal genre was alright but really just a bit of a laugh. even cannibal holocaust and faces of death were easy to watch. I can't watch commercial horror any more. I'm not saying i wanna watch dirty snuff off illegal download sites, but i do want to see something more. Is there anything out there. Please help.

I started watching this but turned it off after about 30min as it wasn't for me, simple really. I'm not going to criticise people who enjoy this movie or the creators, different strokes for different folks. Who I am going to criticise are the people who watch films like this and then complain about them. The notoriety that surrounds such films is there for a reason, everyone who views films like this are surely aware of the subject matter so why are they so shocked? What makes things worse is they jump on here and start trying to take the moral highground.
The main reason I didn't finish this is the lack of plot, a story probably wasn't the main agenda for this film, fair enough i'll watch something else.

You must have been aware this was a "pseudo-snuff" genre flick before you started watching it? And that pseudo-snuff horror flicks have the very thinest of thin plots (if one exists at all). You must surely have set yourself up to fail from the beginning?

Yeah, well there needn't be any taboos in art... you'll say "this isn't art, there's nothing artistic about this, it's sick etc.", but any film is 'art', if it's presented as such. Enjoying Saw and Hostel and decrying AU for its violence is illogical - they succeed (or fail, as the case may be) on the same grounds.
AU... I don't really know what to make of. It's what I thought Guinea Pig would be, I suppose. Certainly achieves what it sets out to.

The biggest problem with this series of films is that the people who made them have no filmmaking talent whatsoever. And reasling this, they have decided to play the only card they have...to shock and digust people. The trouble is, when you have no filmmaking talent, the film comes across as an inept compilation of amateur-hour gore scenes, filmed in a 'documentary' style (a way of disguising the fact the can't even shoot properly). What amazes me is the fact that film has generated so much attention. Has it really come to this? Utter *beep*
shareThis movie shows violence as it truly is, horrible. Your saw, hostel, and captivity movies show violence as a a glamorized act. So in a way you are just as sick as anyone who watches these movies, except you watch the violence that seems nice.
