yeah well it would, it's a portuguese film festival for sci-fi movies and this is a sci-fi movie with portuguese funding and several portuguese actors, among them leading names like diogo infante as the serial killer and, uh, catarina furtado (she's just famous, i'm not saying she's any good - though she may surprise me on this one) - so of course it was gonna win. not saying it didn't deserve to, i haven't seen the film yet.

(Just explain me one thing -if you know, of course: why did Germany not win the World Cup 2006, that was played last summer IN Germany territory, WITH german funds, WITH german players, and even...SURPRISE....with GERMAN organization? Maybe Italians know the answer better than teaWOMEN...just like almost the rest of the world)
oh god... relax already. i'm not saying the film didn't deserve to win. like i said, i haven't seen it. still, winning at fantasporto (which is a portuguese film festival, please correct me if i'm wrong, but it seems to me it is - and a very respected one at that, and it's very good there are solid film festivals in portugal - there's also the one in troia i believe, for short films) wasn't that much of a stretch... portuguese films hardly ever get noticed anywhere, so of course if something good gets made they're gonna be rewarded in their home country, which is only natural. i'm not saying it's a bad thing, just predictable. especially since this is a genre film, and fantasporto is a genre festival. where is the insult in that?
just because the film got portuguese funding and portuguese actors doesn't mean they get the *right* to win an award in portugal, it just seems to me it will increase the odds.
that said, i saw the trailer completely by accident while watching another dvd, and was very happy to see diogo infante in a film that could be available for me to watch. as for catarina furtado, although she was kinda hot in the 1990s, i don't think she's a very good actress and she isn't the woman i respect more in portuguese arts today. i don't think i'm being very controversial here.
ps: cinema isn't soccer. somehow everything in portugal always comes down to futebol... it's a crying shame, cause there is so much more to life and so much more to the human experience. but hey.

The only thing people can "read" in your comment is that you may have had any problem with Catarina Furtado ( i hope nothing serious...), and that you see Portugal as a country where everything ends up in a football-stadium.
About the film?? You write "sh***" even without seeing it...and you judge people, actors, and even a world-prestiged festival. I'm not going to repeat myself...
Just one clue: do you know how many times a portuguese movie made part of FANTASPORTO's festival? And how many of them have ever win any award or even be mentioned?? Improve your knowledge, if you want to.
About your silly impression of Portugal and Football...well,only you can know what you're talking about! (Hope the street you live in has a pharmacy near you...only when needed, of course)
We have many other things to worry about...and many other beautiful interests to offer to people who like to live and have an open-minded way of living! Tourists know what i'm talking about..even those for whom football is just like a silly comment of people who talk about something they've not seen!
But for sure we usually DON'T JUDGE ANYONE or any situation if we are not abled to do it. And this is, FOR SURE, a good example for you...or the person you see whe you look at your mirror.

animal is in english. with the exception of two actors, they are all english, born and raised in england. the film director is french, and wrote "1492" in english, her second language.
what I mean is that, apart from being shot in portugal, the film is not especially portugese. the technicians were, not the cast, not the financing (just part of it).
when and if you get to watch it, you will not be able to tell where it was shot. and the english people who saw it never knew that those two actors are portugese.
in so many words, it's a european film.

and it got best pic and screenplay in porto and a silver melies in helsinky, both international film fest for sci fi movies.

wow, i never thought my comment would get so much attention... when i watched the trailer i thought diogo infante's english was really great, i was like: i never knew he could speak such good english!!! but now you say he's half-brit, that makes sense. i like him very much, wish i couldve seen more of him while i was living in portugal...
apparently this film wasn't very lucky, apart from awards it got little attention... i might see it one day, who knows.
ps to the insulting poster: seriously... do you need to insult people just because an issue is raised, that you dislike. bullying isn't the best way to communicate

Well, first of all, I'm not involved in this film (just in case you apply to me the "very personal agenda" thing). I'm just someone that saw the movie and therefore can have an opinion about it (which isn't your case).
Second, when you refer to the "insulting posting"...well, you were the one who made an insulting poster to start with.
You didn't see this movie, you're not informed about Fantasporto, you say you like Diogo Infante but you're now saying that he is half-brit and therefore his english should be good(his father is english but he only met him with 30 something...so I don't think he has such a great connection with england...and it isn't admiring at all that a portuguese speaks well english) and you even had the nerve to classify that "somehow everything in Portugal always comes down to futebol..."
So after all you're the one full of prejudices that just did a comment for...I have no clue why for...are you traumatized about Portugal or France or England (since this is a joint movie)? Or did you want to show that you knew something about it when you actually don't? What did you think you were adding to this thread? For me your message was something like "I didn't see the movie but the fact of winning Fantasporto isn't nothing special since it'S a portuguese movie in a portuguese Festival"...
European movies in general (despite the english ones) don't have too much visibility in the large cinema industry, however for those who appreciate it, it doesn't matter if it's spanish, french, portuguese, belgium, german or whatever (because they have something called subtitles, so you can have the pleasure of hearing a movie in its own language). So, the question about visibility doesn't apply only to Portugal but, unfortunately, to almost every european movie.
Nevertheless, there are a lot of festivals that are aware of this type of cinema (Fantasporto is only one of those) and if you were well informed you would know that a lot of portuguese movies enter in those festivals.
Sincerely, just stop with the prejudices...for your writing you seem to be an intelligent person, so it shouldn't be that hard. Watch the movie and then make a comment about something that you know and not something that you're trying to guess.
I sympathize with Teawoman, I didn't find him/her offensive at all. On the other hand, the repliers really sounded over-sensitive.
