A question about Samantha's outdoor activities at Piney Point

I apologize, I know that this question is not exactly related to the movie, but this board seems to be the best place to get an answer. Included in Samantha's summer accessories to go with the summer story are a magnifying glass, butterfly net, and butterflies. The summary for these things says that Samantha examines butterflies with her magnifying glass at the lodge. If I interpret this correctly, then it's very cruel and uncharacteristic of Samantha. I can't imagine someone as sweet as she is killing butterflies. I'm just hoping that I'm missing something and have the wrong impression here. Does anyone know exactly what Samantha does to the butterflies?

Just cause she's examining them doesn't mean she has to kill them lol have not had a butterfly land near you or on you somewhere before? I think by examining them it's really saying she's just looking at their wings

Thank you. I now know that you are right because in the past few months I have contacted Pleasant Company with this question and they have said that Samantha just holds the butterflies in the net for a moment and then lets them fly away. The particular wording of this matter is what has given me the wrong impression. Since the summary uses the word 'lodge', it has made me think that Samantha examines the butterflies in the cabin, which would mean that they are dead. It's not stated directly that Samantha is still outside. This is why it has bothered me so much. The false implication that has been given to me does not suit this girl's character at all. I'm so glad that I have misunderstood!
