In today's world, Joe's habits would lead to CPS intervention

I can't help but think that in today's (2014) world CPS would intervene when a father is walking around the house in his underwear in front of his small children.

Are you serious? That's called being normal.

You're insane.

Quite possibly and it would be another case of overreacting. His attire does not threaten the children in any way and he is a wonderful father outside of the fact that neither he nor Alison are capable of teaching their children to not treat them as door mats.

This one makes me laugh.

Maybe it's my "Australian" showing, but I can't even count the times I've seen immediate family members in underwear...or partially dressed. Or the number of times my sister and cousin would "moon" (show their arses) to strangers out the side of the car window on family holidays.

Oh yeah...we were a classy bunch!

Since this is Australia, we can get ridiculously hot nights where it's been 40-something degrees (Celsius) during the day, and doesn't go under 30 overnight.

Before the days of air-con, we'd all be in our undies and loose singlet, lying in front of a fan and periodically spraying ourselves with one of those spray bottles of water, trying to keep cool in a desperate bid to sleep in spite of the sweltering heat.

Inevitably, you'd see someone emerge from their room in their underpants...but really?...Who cares if a parent is in their undies? It's not done in a sexual way and they're not showing anything you wouldn't see at the beach.

Oh and I remember plenty of morning "mad dashes" to get ready with partially dressed family members looking for something on the clothes horse, or ironing in their undies. Fortunately we had a high front fence, so even if our front curtains were open, the street didn't get an eye-full!

Unless there's something else going on...like something that points to sexual inappropriateness, CPS is mad to make a big deal out of underwear.

Ha ha I'm with u !!

I come from a European family and I've seen my mom in her nightgown or my dad in his boxers numerous times ....

I think being uptight about nudity and sex and things like that is an American thing lol

I'm on season 5 episode 5 and I haven't been bothered by this. I am as prude as they get, so I think you are off base here. Boxers are just as loose as shorts. If he was running around in tighty whities or a thong...I might notice. While I would think those were inappropriate, still don't know if they would be cause for calling CPS.

reply

Um, no. Just about every dad I know (who currently has young children) walks around in boxer shorts sometimes... and I don't think anyone has called CPS on them!

This may be one of the most ridiculous posts I've ever read on these boards and that's saying a LOT.

reply

I always thought it was mandatory for dads to walk around in their underwear.
