Jonny Zero DVD

It's hard to believe that Fox came up with the money to make 9 episodes and then just locked the rest away, effectively wasting all the money spent, because there will be no advertising revenue. But ABC did it with Eyes, so there's nothing new about that.

It's hard to believe that good ole Fox show the episodes in the wrong order and then wonder why viewers get confused and turn away. Will anyone other than the CryptMaster at FoxVault ever see Episode 3???????

I though this was one of the best, grittiest, well made drama series I've ever seen, tough slice of urban living seen from the point of view of an ex con trying to make good. With a latino in the lead, which seems a rare thing. There were points I felt quite emotional for Franky, his wife telling him to leave them alone, the way he gets stabbed with a smack needle, his kid not recognising him.

Petty crime and urban survival seen from a viewpoint we never get to see - the criminals and thugs. Usually it's the cops, or the lawyers, or the cops.

Sigh.

I emailed Fox about a DVD putting all the wasted episodes to use (darn hard to find a way to email them) but it was the wrong one, and I was redirected to FoxStore.com, although they didn't know whether they had an email address there! However, no way of communicating unless you buy something, it seems.

Ah well, RIP Jonny. Grand Theft Auto - the TV series, as far as I can see. As close as you'll ever want to get to seeing how difficult it is trying to lead a straight life after your veered off the path.

Anyboy know how many viewers it got and how many it needed to survive? Was it put in a crummy slot, Friday night for example?

Another series that will never get finished off. I think dear Fox have driven me to only start watching series that have made it to season 5, that way I can be sure there won't be episodes made and never shown, a good chance it will be on DVD, and a good chance of it being finally finished off properly, without stuff hanging.

Oh but wait! Then if everybody does this, no one will watch half done first series any more!

No wait, it's already happening, it seems.

Bad cycle you are creating here, Fox. Unless shows mature, you will never get successful, long lived, money making shows. If you haven't faith in your own product, how the blinking hell are we supposed to, scared it's going to get snatched away under our very noses if we dare to watch it?!?!?!

Ah that's better. Thanks for letting me get that off my chest, people. Long winded diatribe over.

Final thought, a show with Franky G in the lead gets cancelled, won't this make it even more unlikely we'll get to see anyone who isn't a neurotic white woman, or a slick white lawyer with a token black guy in the office (Kevin Hill being a nice exception) in a lead role in a TV series? I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who worked on the show about this, 'cos a few seem to hang around here, and because you may be the people who would be most affected by this, the actors.

You can't be serious. I suppose next you're going to go on and say that Cradle 2 the Grave is the apex of cinematic art.

Why does Fox (or any other network for that matter)cancel a show midseason? It sucks. Why would you keep throwing money into a bottomless pit of a show? If they released Jonny Zero on DVD, you know how many copies would sell? Probably somewhere between seven and twelve.

Fox does have long-living money making shows. The Simpsons. Now in its sixteenth or seventeenth season. Family Guy. Fox made money on Family Guy hand over fist when it came to DVD, and now its back and bigger than ever. King if the Hill. Ten seasons of success. Malcolm in the Middle has been on for some time now. As has That 70's Show. 24 will be entering its fifth season this year. Although 24 is really Fox's only well-received drama that I can think of. But thats just because all the rest of their dramas have all out sucked. Its clear that the Fox Corporation's drama writers write for FX instead of Fox.

Franky G is just a *beep* actor. There really is no other way of putting it. How can I take you seriously when you don't have a last name? Grow up, Franky, this isn't eighth grade anymore.

I am serious.

For me it was Oz on the street. Is there another show that portrays street life like this? I'd like to see it, and I probably blinked and missed it.

The only drama series you mention is 24. Is that the only successful Fox drama series? Surely not.

I also agree with you about sucky shows being cancelled, but there are niche shows that it's loyal viewers love, but there aren't enough of them to justify it. A big budget example is Firefly, but shows like Homicide struggled if not for their heavyweight creators. Who am I to say a show like Survivor, Ghost Hunters or Trailer Park boys suck? I think they do, but there are people out there who love them. I hope for their sake the shows they like survive, but there ain't enough room out there for everything, "good" or "bad."

Re. the last name thing, I tend to agree with you, but various non acting rappers and the like with silly names have got quite well received for their acting. Eminem, Snoopy Dogg whatever, and others.

And I hated Cradle to the Grave. Not sure why you think I liked it? Because I liked something you didn't, therefore everything you don't like I must like?

What a strange way of thinking.

Also if you hate the show so much, why are you on the message board for it?

You must have a) searched for Jonny Zero, b) clicked for the message boards c) looked through the messages and d) gone to all the trouble to post a ridiculing comment for a show you hate.

You must do a heck of a lot of work for shows you DO like!!!

To go to a message board and say the show sucks seems a little inflammatory. It may be classed as "trolling," but I suspect it's simply a matter of you not liking a show I do.

Doesn't mean I have poor taste, it means I have a different taste. I bet I also like a lot of the shows you do, but liking different things is what makes people different.

Embrace the diversiveness!

Don't hate it!
