How can someone be a misanthrope and also be a medic?

A lot of these sons of bitches are just sadists who don't give a crap about human suffering, but just want the money and the prestige.

No offense...but that's the entire point and irony of the story. The whole plot line exposes the fallacy of "true altruism". Someone who is in it for themselves entirely and despises humanity can help someone tremendously if they are intelligent and love to solve puzzles.

It struck me his being a misanthrope came from his frustration with having to explain his reasoning to people who were not super geniuses like him. Also, having to deal with patients who tried to pull the wool over his eyes didn't help matters either.

In my long life I've never encountered any doctor who gave the honest impression that he or she actually gave a crap. Most of them are in it for prestige, money, and sometimes the challenge.

I had a older doctor who was supposedly treating my esophagitis. Each appointment I'd have to wait at least an extra hour in the waiting room, which rarely had happened to me with any other doctor. Plus, the waiting room was never all that crowded. Then, he'd spend about 3-5 minutes with me and rush me out without really saying much, he definitely didn't seem interested in my case AT ALL. All this was very obvious from the beginning, I let it happen 3 times(3 strikes and guess what?). I canx my 4th appointment the day before it was supposed to take place.

The staff never bothered responding nor trying to reschedule my canx appointment and none of their treatments were of any help. Most doctors I've dealt with are usually pretty good, this one was the worst he really stuck out as someone saving up as much money for retirement.
