Ramsey was just obnoxious. He was mean and nasty purely for his own selfish reasons.
Marco can be short and sharp - especially with complaining customers - but he truly cares for his celebrity chefs - and he gets alot more out of them than Ramsey ever did.

That's the problem. Sure, everybody would love to work with a leader that protects & respect them, but it's typically no fun for the audience.
The main problem is sometimes the customers may have a good case about the food, either it's too cold or has hair in it, while Marco took those complaints & turn against the customers. It seems no matter how bad the chefs are doing, he still protects them.

shareGordon seemed like he was trying to hard to act like a jerk. I think when I seem him on Kitchen nightmares he comes across as his true self. From all the stories I hve read about Marco in the past, it seemed like Gordon was trying to be the guy that Marco once was. Marco can be cruel, but he would follow it with a sincere moment of "Cooking is a presentation of yourself, allow me to take you hand and be your guide." I just liked Marco's approach much more then Gordon's unneccessary cursing.
sharei find ramsey intimidating, verbally aggressive and to an extent nasty. i think it takes a lot of balls and courage to put up with that type of attitude. at least with marco, he was helpful, encouraging and always tried to bring out the best of those celebrities, without resorting to aggression. he was strict but he always went about it in a way that he wouldn't upset them, plus, he would say positive things and so the guys would take it on board.
although, one thing i do like about ramsey is that he doesn't take crap from no one and he tells it like it is. even when he sounds very menacing
I think Ramsay is like the ultimate leader/boss/mentor/dictator (whatever you want to call him) because he has a very loud mouth and it's hard NOT to absorb everything he's telling you. He has all these restaurants and lots of money so you can't really say he doesn't know what he's doing. He also has no tolerance for smart asses with attitudes and you'd better be prepared to take his crap or be able to fight back if you question something he says. Marco seems like a bit of a hardass as well but he's much more subtle than Ramsay. Both can be intimidating but they both have their different ways of making sure the job gets done and gets done right.
