shamelessly manipulative moments of faux tension

i enjoyed the movie, but thought it was shameless in terms of constantly coming up with moments where dramatic music comes on the soundtrack to signify danger and/or tragedy and we are led to expect horrific tragedies that magically go away (the rattlesnake attack -- based on a real event? I have my doubts.)

I noticed this too. It really takes the joy out of the movie when it seemed as though Burt was gonna die at any moment. Always being reminded of how fragile human life is. The guy returned to Bonneville nine times afterwards, for Pete's sake.

Like, I get it, the movie needed some tension I suppose, but after a while it gets rather depressing. It was like watching the movie with the Grim Reaper sitting next to you. I didn't even have the heart to light up a cigarette.

-"But you know what's on my mind right now? It AIN'T the coffee in my kitchen..."
