The Ending of Broken Flowers

Ok i was enjoying the movie overall i mean it was no Lost in Translation but it was remotely enjoyable. But so who was the verdict of the one that sent him the letter? Secondly does anyone feel the film is unfinished? Like it was a bit of an unsatisfying ending?

reply

No.

Its supposed to end like that. It's to show the view the emptiness that will haunt the main character till his death. He will never know if that letter was true or not. Nor will we.

I thought it was a brilliant film. Including the ending.

reply

No i do agree that the film was great but i guess what you said makes sense. I guess gotta watch it again

I'm not a fan of films that are not resolved at the end, and this was certainly one of those. I was hoping for a better ending.

I recommend St. Vincent. . . one of Murray's best!!!!

When the screen went black, I actually said aloud... "I hope that's not it?"
I have never felt this kind of reaction before. Several seconds went by, and then the credits started. Well done, Jim!

My theory was that the sandwich kid wasn't the son or he wouldn't have freaked out like he did. I think Homer Murray driving by was the director's way of saying he was the son, since the audience knows it's Bill's actual son. It appeared Homer never drove near enough for the two to speak, and drove away too quickly for Don to catch him and confront him. So Don just appeared to stand defeated in the final scene. Never to know, or at least not without a lot more struggle.

The ending just reflects Don's ongoing confusion about who his son might be. He is going to see his son everywhere from now on and that's his torture...

Agree. Sandwich was def not his son, thus the freakout as Feli123-2000 said. As a middle aged man without kids, there is also this empty feeling and wondering "what if" looking around you. You probably have to be a bit older to appreciate this movie or find it any way relatable.
