Ten years later
I don't know about the rest of you, but that was one crazy decade. Looking at the person I was then, and the person I am now, I'm quite proud of my self-improvement.
I remember well the release of this game. I loved the movies of course, but the first game was fairly disappointing. My favourite levels were the ones where you could swing around the skyscrapers of New York, but it was very lacking. The swinging mechanic was stupid, you couldn't go to street level, and you had to stay within this tiny area. But there was potential, and I'm sure the creators of this game saw it too.
I can vividly recall seeing adverts of this game on television, promising you could "go anywhere, do anything", so I was hyped. It was the only game I wanted, and I made sure my parents were well aware of this. So when I got it, it was everything I'd ever hoped for. There were sandbox games before this, but I'd never played any, and, being used to skyboxes and invisible walls, this game blew my mind when I realised that anything I could see off in the distance, I could go to if I felt like it.
The story missions were fun, but the majority of my experience was just exploring the city, which I could spend hours doing and never get bored of due to the fantastic swinging mechanics.
And then I discovered this board and, well, you all know the story from there.
10 years later, this game has a place of honour on my shelf, and still gets taken down from time to time if I'm feeling nostalgic. Though the graphics are dated, the gameplay holds up perfectly, and is still many people's go to example of a good movie-licensed game.
As for me, I will never forget it, nor the good times spent with all of you people. The last decade was great for me, and you were a big part of why. So once again. From the bottom of my heart. Thank you. All of you. Here's to another 10 years.
I'm a leaf on the wind. Watch how I soar.
