Rumors Confirmed?

I'm sure you're all familiar with the rumors surrounding this game. I believe I've recently found some new evidence though about The Lizard... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wNe8S8vIZyU&feature=plcp

There were many rumors surrounding the lizard in this game. the most prevalent one seemed to be that you beat the fighting arena, then go to the pizza parlour at night, and wait around for a bit. The manhole cover will open, and you can go down it and fight the lizard. This has pretty much been proven false.

I heard about that one. I think it's possible. I won't know for sure for awhile, since I'm only about 54% done.

Good luck getting to 100%. Many have tried, none have succeeded. The last few bugle missions, and a few of the challenges are impossible as far as I can tell.
I think I got to about 85-90%. As far as I remember the best I've seen is about 99%.

We had a massive thread about speculations on what would happen when we reach 100%. Apparently Governer's island would rise from the water, you'd go there and find a key to the locked doors in the daily bugle, which would contain alternate costumes.

While I doubt the validity of this, none of us ever pulled it off, so we don't know.

If you go up to the doors, they'll make a turning-locked-doorknob kind of noise, but the same noise can be heard on the window of the new warehouse built where Doc Ock's once was. I think alternate costumes is possible, since they have those in the first game and the third game...

reply

That's the thing. Every other door in the game that makes that noise, you can go through at some point.

And what about the bridge that you can't cross because that area is "Unavailable at the Moment" or something like that? Or is that accessible before you reach 100%?

reply

No, you can never cross the Queensboro bridge. The map simply ends there. The invisible wall surrounds the whole city, but it's very hard to get to it at any point other than the bridge.

This is insane, how can anyone who wants to reach 100% not have done so in....EIGHT YEARS !

And Bruce Campbell even said in the game that the Lizard isn't in it.

reply

Because it's friggin impossible. If you wanna have a go, then by all means, but you'd be the first.

It's not like we didn't try. Oh how we tried. We were pretty obsessed with this game for a while, and we basically concluded that it simply can't be done.

I knew this game was great, played it for years myself, but never realised there were these group of guys who were obsessed with it (for a while).

It must have been the novelty and the amazement of free-roaming Spiderman action, it was too much too soon for you guys, right ?

Anyway, I suspect that if it were impossible to complete all the challenges (which it is) for almost ten years, then surely the makers of the game would have told you by now of the so-called secrets that woud be unlocked , if there really were any.

reply

That's the gist of it. I could spend hours, just swinging around new york, stopping the occasional crime, Jumping off the empire state building etc.

It's some of the most fun I've ever had with a game, and I tend to come back to every so often, when I just want to relax, and remember the good times.

As for the developers spilling the beans, I reckon they mostly moved on, and forgotten about this game. It's not as if there's a massive outcry for answers.

Also, as it's been built up all these years, the truth could never live up to our expectations.

This is an excellent addicting game, one of the best. I am currently at 89% and I will say, some of the mini-games and challenges are impossible. There is one pizza delivery mission I'm stuck on in which you must go all the south, then all they way north, then to Roosevelt Island, then back...in 90 seconds! Thats impossible!

I have El Sonoma del Torra de Fiero Syndrome. Be happy you don't. Trust me.

reply

Yeah, the pizza missions get tough, but they're not unbeatable. The daily bugle missions on the other hand...

You'd think Jonah would question the validity of these photos taken umpteenth meters above the city streets in under two minutes. Nope, never did.

In my room the other day, I dusted off the guidebook to this game on my bookshelf. Towards the back there was concept art for Connors and the Lizard.

Like we've speculated before, any notion the creator's had for putting the Lizard into this game was pushed back for the third.

But as someone pointed out, those reptilian fiends you fight in the warehouse were probably recycled Lizard-thugs.

It's not impossible to get 100%. I got 99%, the only thing left for me was the Partycrasher award received after defeating 25 criminals in robot suits that I was too lazy to get.

I admit that I cheated a bit, as I watched many youtube videos to know where were the skyscraper tokens on the buildings and exactly how to act and move to beat a few racing challenges. But trust me, it's possible. You'll kill your fingers, but it's doable.

One thing that makes THE difference so you can achieve 100% and beat the harder challenges (Daily Bugle races/City circuit races) is to get the wallsprint upgrade 2, by finding all the 150 skyscraper tokens.

Do you have some proof of your achievements? I'd love to finally see someone beating this game. I must admit, I never did get all the skyscraper tokens. What does the wallsprint upgrade 2 do that's so useful?

reply

Sadly I don't, my PS2 broke a few years ago, however I still have the 99% achievement in my Memory Card. If I ever get a PS2 again, I'll get the remaining 1% and take a pic.

The Skyscraper Tokens challenge was something that I "cheated" on. I went to Gamefaqs.com and there was a walkthrough on how to find them. However it's too easy to get confused reading instructions, but not impossible, as I managed to do it. Anyways, go to YouTube, there are video guides that are a lot easier to follow if you're interested in conquering the ST challenge and getting the second Wallspring Upgrade.

The Wallspring Upgrade 2 is great because allows Spider-Man to run twice as faster on the walls of the buildings in any direction. Trust me, it helps A LOT when you're trying to complete a racing challenge, MJ challenge or a DB challenge that requires wallsprint speed or simply getting to any other point in New York since wallsprinting + webslinging is the greatest speed combo in the game.
