Shut down the Syfy channel

Anyone else agree? They've ruined Lake Placid, Stir of Echoes, Pumpkinhead, Firestarter, Anaconda, Children of the corn, Cube And now they've completely destroyed ROTLD...Granted, some of those films weren't exactly classics but the Syfy channel sequels are just abysmal. Have they EVER made a decent "Syfy original movie?" They don't even make the films to be entertaining, they're just pummelled out as quickly as possible with no thought about the poor suckers who are going to sit through them..I mean c'mon, has anyone here managed to sit through Ogre, Rage of the yeti, Mega Piranha or Sand Sharks and not felt like thier souls have just been dragged backwards through the tortures of hell? They need shutting down and replacing with a channel with more to offer...The "watching paint dry" channel springs to mind.

I love the syfy channel, i've watched it since the early 2000's...

Piranhaconda
Pumpkinhead 3 and 4
Man-Thing
Lake Placid 4
2 Headed Shark Attack
Python
Crocodile

I have seen Ogre, Rage of the Yeti, Mega Piranha and Sand Sharks and i agree that Rage of the Yeti and Mega Piranha were crap but Ogre and Sand Sharks were allright in my book! :)

Dog soldiers wasn't a Syfy movie bud, it was an independant UK horror (and quite a good one too) but we'll have to beg to differ on Ogre and Sand sharks mate, I thought they were awful...I actually did a review on Amazon about sand sand sharks ands all I could write was 10 pages of hahahaha's it was horrendous...(if you want a great shark film, best one since Jaws, watch Bait 3d, it's not the shawshank redemption but it's an ace popcorn flick, it has everything you could want from a silly shark flick) Ogre...Hmmm? Even Katherine Isabelle who starred in it, slated the film as an excuse to pay the rent lol I cant cope with film with really really bsd special effects, it just ruins it for me if the content isnt believable

I've seen Bait, i thought it is up there as one of the three greatest shark flicks next to deep blue sea and jaws (Jaws 2 a close competator) IMHO, and on the old syfy channel site it had Dog Soldiers Listed as a sci-fi channel original movie, I know it was an independant UK horror film but still, i saw it on the sci-fi website 24/7 listed as one of their movies until they changed the title and thus the website which now you really can't find any of the older movies web pages! IDK, maybe it was only there because they showed it and paid a small amount to have it on their channel back in '02-Whenever they changed the site. All i know is that it was there (on the site/tv) and i used to be afraid to watch it (i was such a scardy cat when it came to werewolves lol)

P.S. i loved dog soldiers as well, Neil Marshal is a genious! :)

P.S.S. I heard they are making a sequel/TV series for Dog Soldiers, but i've heard that all to much since it was released LOL

Yeah they had a sequel to Dog Soldiers listed on here for a while "Dog soliders: Fresh meat" but the info seens to have disappeared, shame really as it was supposed to tell the story of the army sergent they bump into in the first one and his missing platoon of soldiers. Not seen the website you mentioned but I guess if it was up there then like you say, SYFY will have paid something for it. But Dog soldiers did get a wide theatrical release here in the UK, I took my other half to see it and she spent half the film buried in my coat lol

Completely agree with you on Neil Marshal, his films have been a breath of fresh air to the horror industry. :)

I have a soft spot for Syfy Originals too, but just for the sake of accuracy, just like Dog Soldiers, Abominable was not a Syfy production. It was produced by Red Circle Entertainment and it even had a limited theatrical run. Syfy simply had the TV distribution rights.

In general, I think Syfy's truly original movies, like Ogre, Flying Monkeys, Heebie Jeebies or Hydra, are better than their attempts at continuing already existing franchises. Just thinking of Syfy's Puppetmaster vs. Demonic Toys, which managed to p*ss on two franchises at once, makes me retch.

To be fair its just the SyFy Films branch that is the issue the TV series side is generally decent. That said pretty much everything with the Syfy picture brand is horrendous but honestly I find it almost fun trying to guess what stupid concept they will pull out of their ass next. They did just about every mutant animal they could think of before moving on to the mythical creature category (Ogre, Yeti, Manticore etc). When those ran out they went for extreme weather and natural disasters. When that dried up they just started combining the previous categories giving us gems like Ice Spiders, Sharknado, Pirahnaconda and Skarktopus.

I have to blame Discovery/History Channel for the recent abomination Ragin Redneck Gators tho. I mean I can only assume some one thought to capitalize on the popularity of shows like Swamp People and Moonshiners and was like "I KNOW lets make a movie about a batch of tainted mooonshine that turns people into alligators that'll BE AWESOME!"

I kind of like their Children of the Corn remake but I will agree the channel certainly isn't what it used to be. I miss when they used to show stuff like Dark Shadows, Sightings, Mystery Science Theater 3000, Tales From the Darkside, and Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction. Nowadays they show a lot of reality show junk. They do show The Twilight Zone a lot which I like and occasionally they surprise me with a good movie, but I still miss the old Sci-Fi (or SyFy, whichever you prefer).
