Style-Branch Combos not showing on screen

I'm playing this on PS2 and am having a problem.The Style-Branch Combos are not showing up on the screen.And Scorpion keeps walking sideways on his own.I can get him to stop walking by unplugging the controller and then plugging it back in,but can't figure out how to get the Combos to appear on the screen.The only thing that appears on the screen is "0/1".Can anybody help me?
