The Problem with Hellboy Series

The reason why the Hellboy series has not done great even though Golden Army had great visuals except for final fight scene, is that Hellboy can basically do nothing except punch and fire a big gun.

They gave a small glimpse that Hellboy could conquer the Earth if he embraced his evil side, yet he has shown no super powers so what you get is really a boring hero other than a brute with a sense of humor.

They need to show more from their main character and over all stories have sucked as well.

WTF?

The problem with the Hellboy films is that they're too childish for adults and too grown-up for kids.

They only seem to appeal to a very narrow audience - Males aged between 15 and 20. Sure, that's a lucrative enough demographic, but as a pair of films on an artistic level, it's a real shame as somewhere in the two films (the first half of the the first film and elements of the second) could be a thrilling, intelligent action film. The cast are good, the Lovecraftian creature design and SFX are wonderful and the direction is decent enough but the scripts needed a re-write.

Maybe a re-boot in a few years time with a more mature audience in mind will result some better films.

You couldn't be further from the truth if you tried.

While I appreciate and respect your views, I think they are off. The film series is one that I have observed having more of an appeal to the older and more open minded crowd. Being in my late teens when the first film came off and closing in on 30 now, I've personally witnessed a growing appreciation in the film as my peers have matured and grown. And upon their initial release, most of the people I knew who enjoyed the films were people of older demographics- 30's, 40's, 50's, etc.

I think you're not really giving the films the credit they deserve. They are definitely not made, nor do they strictly appeal to males aged 15-20.

And FURTHERMORE, this is my signature! SERIOUSLY! Did you think I was still talking about my point?

Problem I found was the two movies just did not seem to link up..... 1st movie was good, yet 2nd one seemed to be a total relaunch of all the character, with a lot lost in between.

Golden Army seems to be far to focused on that a better 3rd movie will be on the way, and just seems to drop constant hints that this will be better, yet does not do anything for the story for this movies.

Basically, first movie is good, second movie takes very little from it and seems to spend most the time tee'ing up the 3rd movie, which thus has never came along.

It's like a Sci-Fi Chick Flick, compared to others.

The problem with this series is that the films are shot beautifully but ultimately are a bore in action and lead actor.

I think the problem is that fact that too many people have become pretentious, and simply do not know how to have fun anymore, but instead focus on far more derivative and less heartfelt fare.

Not at all. Great action and a charismatic lead actor make for a fun movie.

Can't stop the signal.

A super-hero by definition requires super-powers (I don't really consider the likes of BATMAN and IRON-MAN to belong in this category). HELLBOY does have a super-power: He's stronger than a human. It's not fair to say that he does nothing but punch. It's also better from a narrative point of view. If he could conquer the Earth, then he would be invincible. An invincible super-hero is boring.
