If you liked Easy Rider and Grindhouse, you will definitely like this movie...it's like a combination of both of those films...

Comparing HELL RIDE to EASY RIDER and GRINDHOUSE might be giving it a little too much credit. I'd say it's the SHOWGIRLS of biker movies. That's neither praise nor condemnation, just my observation. It's slick, it's loud, its excessive -- It's not a good movie, but as bad movies go it's pretty fun. It would prob'ly be more fun if it had a drinking game to go along with it (hows that for a DVD feature?!). With so many leathery-tanned rough riders acting so butch, I wouldn't be surprised if the studded-leather gay crowd turns HELL RIDE into a camp/cult movie within 10 years.

reply

i didnt think it was horrible or fantastic, its a cool movie

reply

I absolutely loved this film! It's highly entertaining and fun! It delivered exactly what I expected!

reply

Not really giving it too much credit...I compared it to Grindhouse because Hell Ride is exactly what Grindhouse was: a throw back to the B-movies/grindhouse movies...it's not supposed to be an oscar winner...

To each his own...

I loved it, this film did not dissapoint. I love the score and i wished there was a soundtrack to the film. The movie was short and sweet and had the oldskool grindhouse feel to it. I give it 4 outta 5 stars

reply

crap.

reply

I gotta say I dug this flick alot. I felt it was a lot like Grindhouse. But I think ur right. This is one that could have never had mainstream success, even with QT's name on it, but'll probably develop a cult.

Also, really you think gay dudes are the ones who would create the cult?
This flick's definetly got more T&A than "leathery-tanned rough riders acting so butch". This is way more a straight dude's speed.

What are you, some sort of a shlt gimp?

reply

I finally saw it and I thought it was kind of boring. It wasn't really over-the-top like I expected. Grindhouse was way better.

Maybe just maybe SunNumberOne should re-watch Easy Rider....

Hell Ride is a very bad movie, most of the scenes just looks odd and doesnt make any sense, apparently the director wanted to copy tarantino for some odd reason, at least Tarantino makes sense.

Imagine if Paul Anderson wanted to make a bikers movie, enter hell ride

"Wait!" "Worry" "Who Cares?"

My "trantino hard one?" Did you look past all those spelling and vocab tests they make you take in middle school?

My enjoyment of QT's films is irrelevant as to why I saw and liked this movie...in case you didn't notice, QT had nothing to do with this movie, other than putting his name on it...

The film was ok. I don't think it compares to Grindhouse(Death Proof/Planet Terror) But the 70's Girndhouse features this would probably fit right in. In my opinion Larry Bishop didn't do a very good job at directing. The acting is ok and the score is good but the direction seemed shoddy to me. 4/10

Shall We Begin?

reply

sunnumberone: to be fair i can't argue with that, it was a pretty shoddy effort on my part. I'm just amazed that anyone liked this film, but at the end of the day i guess opinions are like *beep*

reply

cool cool cool, but i had no idea what was going on, or nothing, ... but soooo cool, loved it! such such trash .. gold!!!

reply

well i seen Grindhouse (i.e. Death Proof (which i thought sucked. 4/10... just to boring for the most part especially during the 2nd half of the film) and Planet Terror (which i overall liked 7-8/10)) ... i aint really seen 'Easy Rider' yet but...

overall i think this 'Hell Ride' (2008) film aint really that good as it sorta tries to be cool and stuff like 'Kill Bill' films (which i liked alot (10/10)) etc are but i think it just lacks something even though it seems to have the style (Quentin Tarantino type feel to it, which is usually a good thing) but overall i just dont think the film turned out to good and i can see overall why it has a current average rating of 5.5/10 (3086 votes).

at the end of the day... i give 'Hell Ride' (2008) a 6/10... not horrible or anything but nothing all that great either... it it where not for the 'style' factor i most likely would have rated it a 5/10 (possibly less) as the style kept it a little more interesting.

I thought it was good and thoroughly enjoyed it! Reminds of my friend who rode and past away doing the one thing in life he loved to do-RIDE his steel horse! I liked all the over the top Characters and their styles especially The Gent-Larry did good too, The soundtrack was on and the lovely ladies especially Ms Hepburn was sexy. Fun to watch and easily added to my collection and out of all the recent Grindhouse flicks Death Proof was the least I enjoyed. 1

WORST FILM EVER! I'm not exaggerating, but this was unbelieaveble bad. A disgrace really. Don't watch it! The only reason I watched it was cause I love Michael Madsen, but I just felt bad for him. And I'm a HUGE fan of the Grindhouse movies, but don't watch Hell Ride if you don't want to waste your time.

reply

The best thing in this film was Michael Madsen, he makes almost every character he plays enigmatic and interesting. Shame about the main dude 'Pistolero' who put me right off this film. Later on I found out that he directed it, which made sense because he gives himself loads of screen time trying to look cool and with hot women all over him.
Crap dialogue and hardly any action (I think the motorcycles must of had a speed limit of 30mph)
Still I didn't hate this film but the guy who said that this is a mix of Easy Rider and The Grindhouse movies needs to lay off the crack.
Worth a watch if you have nothing else going on but you really wouldn't miss out on anything if you didn't.

This is just my opinion but the problem with opinions is every *beep* got one, including me!

Easy Rider + Grindhouse = Hell Ride? I can understand why someone would say that (If you never seen Easy Rider). There's only two things comparable to easy rider; the drug scenes and the bikes. Thats it.

Anyways, before watching the movie I read A LOT of negative comments and reviews about Hell Ride. So naturally, I was expecting a crap movie. When the credits started to roll, I was AMAZED. I have a great appreciation for little b-movie gems like this. Great lack of a plot, GREAT music and John Carpenter-like characters who never change. There were many little things about 'Hell Ride' that I can't help but appreciate to call it a bad movie.

But, to each his own.

See, it didn't even pull off the "so bad it's good" type of flick. It was just random scenes thrown together, then called a movie. And I love when a movie is bad on purpose, but this TRIED to be good, and just failed.

An action movie with no action, a porno with no penetration, and 25mph motorcycle riding don't add up to a good movie. As in, there was literally NOTHING good about this movie. I could list all the technical merits on which this failed (writing/acting/editing), but that's not why you watch a movie like this, you watch it for the over the top moments. But this didn't even succeed at being one of THOSE movies either...a complete fail in every sense of the word...

PS: Writer, learn how to write a coherent story! Randomly flashing back and forth between current and flashback is only worth it if DONE RIGHT...just doing it to do it is a waste...

I enjoyed Grindhouse. I've enjoyed plenty of movies worse than either Grindhouse film.

It's not a question of taste. This movie is simply bad. It has a couple fun moments, but the plot, the pacing, and the self-indulgence all combine into a surprisingly uninteresting film. There's a lot pretty naked girls but frankly it doesn't add anything and after a while somehow becomes one of the problems with this film.
