Why no major distribution release?

I love anything that Quentin Tarantino is involved with and tend to be there the first weekend a new film comes out. I never saw this movie advertised locally (SLC Utah) nor advertised/reviewed nationally (Entertainment Weekly, Rolling Stone etc). What happened? Why was it just dumped out on DVD? Lot of big name actors from Tarantino's milieu: David Carradine, Vinnie Jones, Michael Madsen, etc. Did the disappointment of Grindhouse/Planet Terror hurt the film?

Sorry to say David Carradine, Vinnie Jones and Michael Madsen are not big names. I didn't know who Larry Bishop was before I heard of this, I look at his bio and still don't know who he is. It's a hard to market low budget film, the Weinsteins are great for getting a film a look in like it's going theatrical and then they dump it on dvd with at least some exposure.

After watching this movie last night, I'd guess the reason it didn't get a major release was because it would've been a major bomb.
