Diet Pepsi

What's with the blatant product placement? I was surpsrised tp see it in such a small film as this one. It was kind of distracting. Jason Patric even asked "Do you want a diet pepsi?"

Frankly, it takes me out of the movie (or TV show) if they use generic, made-up knockoffs. Likewise, when they give out phone numbers with the prefix 555. That really takes me out of it and makes me realize that I'm just watching a movie.

I'm the same way sometimes, but even still, they did seem to lay it on pretty thick. I'm a Pepsi fan, and I noticed IMMEDIATELY what they were doing. Maybe I'm just weird/different, but usually (unless I knew the particular person would want Diet Pepsi as compared to anything else), I'd just ask if the person wanted anything to drink, as opposed to a particular product.

At the same time, though, I kind of wondered if that was meant to be just another thing that was supposed to be a stable, controlled thing in Albert's life, if that makes any sense. If that's what it was, then it would make sense that it was used so often and so directly.

I thought it was an intentional plot point -- diet Pepsi, a knock-off of a knock-off. perfect for Albert.
