He lost his job as an architect due to downsizing. Mesrine has become a postwar icon in France comparable to Che in South America. He must have done something different than the average criminal to get to this iconic point.
shareYeah he was great at self promotion and portraying himself as a revolutionary when in fact he was a self interested gangster and thug. But he had a ton of charisma and died in service to his "cause" so he's of course romanticized. This film did a good job of exposing his warts and all brutality and misogyny though. The scene where he brutalizes his wife is just off the hook.
