Lamest Presentation of a Cool Myth Ever

I'm sorry but this movie actually annoyed me and I'm willing to watch a lot of mid level stuff if it's about the supernatural and/or has actors I like in it. I really like both Sean Bean and Maria Bello and when I read that it was based on a real Celtic myth that was cool when I looked it up, I decided to watch it.

First of all, why do they show a mythical world as just a shady, colourless version of our own? I know they do that in a lot of movies to show where the dead live, but this was supposed to be a mythical land, why did we just see the same old beach and house? Couldn't we have seen something otherwordly?

If I hear the name "Sarah" again in my life time, it will be too soon.

As some pointed out in the "can someone explain the ending" thread, the body switch at the end didn't add up. It did make it a more creepy ending, but came out of nowhere. The whole movie, it was "one alive to bring back one dead".

Anyway, there's my rant. And I really don't usually rant about movies, no matter how bad they are, but I was disappointed considering the actors and the cool myth they had, they could have done a lot better. I haven't read the book, so who knows if it follows it exactly. I would hope not. I really hope the book was better.

I would like to see a good movie based on this myth, not in a contemporary setting. Hopefully with a big enough budget so we can be immersed in a mythical world worth visiting. One with both light and dark elements.
