Am I the only one that thinks Castlevania 2 is better than the first?

I have all three castlevania games but I havent played Castlevania 3 much yet.It seems a lot like the first one.The first Castlevania was a good game but I found it a bit overrated. But Castlevania 2 Simon's Quest was a great game! I heard it was bad from friends and this angry video game nerd youtube video I saw(while im on the topic he's a really funny guy and his videos kick ass even though there are some that I disagree with). In Castlevania 1 all you do is kill skeletons and zombies and things with your whip at least from the part I have played. But Castlevania 2 is much different. You can interact with the townspeople. Also sure some might be put off with the fact that it doesnt only take one shot to kill things and there are interruptions during the game changing from day and night but I find it to be realistic. Also I find the day and night effect cooler and it doesnt happen too often. This game was excellent for its time and I like this one much better than the first Castlevania.

Anyone agree?

I don't know that it is better, but it is certainly more ambititous, building upon elements from both the original Castlevania and the MSX Japanese computer port Vampire Killer (unrelated to the VK Genesis/Mega Drive title listed on imdb). I love the RPG/Adventure elements in the game. For the me, the main problem is that once I mastered it, at about the age of 9, it hasn't provided any challenge and hence little replay value. I was enthralled by the game back then, following clues, both true and false, but now (even after not playing the game for several years) I found that I remembered everything. No surprises, no challenge. I found a few fan hacks on the net that rearrange the entire game, add new weapons, bosses, etc. Konami needs to reissue this game, packed with both a remake (or 2 or 3, perhaps labeled 2nd and 3rd missions) and the original for prosperity.

I love it, but the fact (CV4 suffers from this too) that you always loose the same amount of energy no matter how far along you are makes it too easy. 1 and 3 were hard b/c near the end 4 hits and your finished. CV2 is esp easy b/c of the leveling up system, you get more energy and (I think) are more immune to attacks. Heck at Dracula (a wimp this time) you can be invincible the entire fight thanks to a full supply of laurels. Not that you need more than one for that short squabble.

Classic, but damn easy. Reminds me of the Contra titles. Most talk about how tough Contra is, but even with one player and 3 lives, I find the games both pretty easy to complete. Of course, I mastered them as kid. I suppose gaming is like riding a bike.

I dont know if there is another Castlevania 2 besides the NES version that you guys are thinking of but the NES C2 sucks. Its one of the worst games ever made. Most of the stages dont even have bosses in them there just empty rooms that look like there was supposed to be a boss fight.

In a sense... Its a blueprint to a outstanding game that was not executed well. But, past its error, i loved exploring Transylvania.
