This movie is like Cipher without the smarts...

I guess had I never seen Cipher this movie would have seemed like a modern-day suspense mystery but I actually thought that Cipher was a much smarter movie in the larger scope of things, especially given how it all played out. It left you guessing a lot even with the hints of foreshadowing.

I think Anthony Zimmer tried to be as smart as Cipher but lacked the plot depth to be as engaging as the latter. Excellent acting and pacing but it was a bit anticlimatic...felt like there was half an hour or so missing and the so-called "bad guy" wasn't threatening or menacing enough to reward viewers with a big enough payoff.

The music and cinematography, though, are top notch.

If you are comparing to Cypher with Lucy Lui then I much preferred this film. I hear what you are saying about being somewhat ani-climatic but overall I did not think Cypher had more smarts. Indeed, I thought it lacked the excitement factor which was certainly present in Anthony Zimmer.

Apart from the somewhat similar plot twist, I consider them very different films.
