Don't quite understand (spoiler **)..

I saw it in Hong Kong International Film Festival. It was a great movie.
However I don't understand several parts in the story:

There was occassional shown up of the boy, what does it imply?

I noticed that the man appeared in the old photo in the flat of old woman, does it imply? Does it mean that the man has ethernal life and keep on making specimens for long time? (Seems he know pretty much about the history of basement)

Well... Can someone tell me what's going on in the end, when Iris leave a label outside the door and go inside?? She's leaving or she's staying?!

I really got mess up in this movie, can someone help me ?

i dont know how much this helps - considering i am pretty lost too!

perhaps the boy is the doctor when he grows up.

perhaps they are all ghosts.

iris is going. material things dont tie her down anymore.

well, you know the significance of the piano piece and use of red?? and why was it called ring finger? european context???
