IT DOESN'T MAKE ME LAUGH

Who can like a man who doesn't get a job to help out his family? It looks like a sitcom, but I'm not laughing. I've given a several chances and the more I watch the more I hate the Rodney character. I didn't realize he was trying to be a stand up comic. I missed the first episode but they played it a few weeks back, so that explained why he didn't have a real job. The family keeps talking about having no money, and the wife works, but the dad doesn't do much. You can't respect a man like that. Get a job and try and pursue the stand up stuff. But even if he got a job, it still wouldn't be funny. I just wouldn't be so angry with him leaving his family in a lurch.

I'm sorry but I don't get most of the ABC shows on that night. It's shocking to me that anyone finds this stuff funny. There are so few shows on now that make me laugh out loud any more. What happened? Who is in charge of picking these shows for the American public? They're horrible.

Hear hear! It's a dud. I've never heard of this guy. Who is he? Why does he have a show? Did you know Touchstone is owned by Disney which owns ABC? Have you noticed the amount of Touchstone junk on ABC? Maybe ABC thinks junk is good. Or Touchstone can't come up with anything good but they have to keep taking it because they're owned by the same people. So as long as whoever is at Touchstone saying these shows are great and handing them to ABC who says they're great, we're in for a lot of junk. Fire the people who are okaying these unfunny shows. Get some fresh ideas going. I think most of the networks are going the reality route because it's fast and cheap. No one wants to make the effort in making something outstanding and unique. Or funny. Do these people have a sense of humor who are picking these shows? It doesn't seem so.

Ok, to the first guy... it's just a show, not a real life story.

To the second guy... I think it's funny, if you've just seen one episode (being the first) then whatever, but i thought it was funny when he bet they'd have to walk in to walmart naked, and the walmart greeter goes "you know you aint got no pants on right?" and rodney said yea i know and the greeter just says ok.

reply

you need to see this guy in a real performace. he is great. i have all of his cd's.

reply

No. The show can't be seen in the light of his stand-up. It should be funny because it is funny, not because of other unrelated material.

In my country, we had never even heard of the guy, and while his stuff might be available online and on DVD ordered from wherevertheheck, his stuff being good does not make the series any better as it stands.

Home Improvement used to make people laugh a lot, whether they had seen Tim's other stand up or not. Everybody Loves Raymond, ditto. This needs to do the same.

Although I think the show is funny, it doesn't do much justice to how funny Rodney can actually be. Listen to any of his CD's. They are very funny and much cruder than primetime network TV will allow.

reply

Ok, first of all...the show isnt the greatest but it isnt too bad either. The only problem is that people expect the things that Rodney Carrington does best. Unfortunately, he isnt allowed to do them on national television. Buy some CD's or listen to Bob and Tom. He is on there a lot.

Dear Penis
Momma's Got her boobs out
Wife met my girlfriend

good stuff...

As much as I love Rodney, I was a little disappointed with the show, but, I do still like it. I think the main thing is for those of us who own copies of his cd's and/or have seen him perform live (I have both) have to adjust to him having to keep it clean for prime time. For those who dislike the show give one of his albums a listen, they make me laugh a lot harder than his show does. Just keep in mind he can be pretty explicit (his live show are 18 and older only). So really, comparing the show to his live routine is like comparing apples and oranges, imho. Just a thought.

The first episode is on ABC1 (a British Cable/Digital Channel) right now. It looks pretty mundane but so do most of the shows on this channel....

....Except 8 Simple Rules and Mad About You (yes this is the first time most of us brits have seen this very old show!).

reply

I've got a simple solution to fix your problem with the show, don't watch. Many people think it's funny, and that's why it's on TV.
Don't turn it into a slippery slope of how everything on television is horrible and it's a great tragedy to American society. Just don't watch.

the last person on earth stood in a room, suddenly, there came a know at the door...

just a quick correction. he does have a job, he works construction for his friend barry and when the family got into financial trouble he put his comedy off and got a night job working secruity in a graveyard. if that's not dedication i don't know what is.

i like Rodney should be on

reply

You like Rodney should be on what?

I have only heard about this show, but if it is half as funny as some of these posts it'll be okay. I think my favorite so far - "Many people think it's funny, and that's why it's on TV." -

I know I always pee my pants laughing whenever I turn the tube on. Esp. anything on ABC - that Hope and Faith show is a friggin laugh riot.

reply

If your gonna pee your pants all the time maybe you should invest in some depends.

ive never heard of this guy before i stumbled across the tv show and its an unfunny show starring a fat guy with a redneck accent. Its like some kind of abysmal grounded for life.

reply

Hey look, you may not understand but MEN ARE LAZY!!!! the second i saw rodney i could relate to him and it puts a funny outtake on his life which is just perfect
