Ice Station - Use of vintage footage

I'm sure others will have noticed that at the beginning of this episode the helicopter sequence where it flies over the frozen ice pack and lands at the station is taken from John Carpenter's The Thing. Having watched that movie a few times, its kind of imprinted on the brain as it was a fantastic opening with the chopper chasing the alien infected wolf. I particularly remember the shot with the camera level with the helicopter and the ice and mountains in the background.
