I'm rewatching it now and I think one died in season one and one was eating Mr Eko when Locke stabbed (? I think) and burned him with the aerosol can. So both dead?

Watching it again I realized the bears were the original ones in those cages they locked Kate and Sawyer up in. I don't know how I missed that the first time I watched back in the aughts.
