Sawyer putting the Marshall out of his misery ?

Does anyone think Sawyer was so stupid that he would shoot that guy in the chest and not the head? Seems unlikely. Sawyer was anti-social pain in the neck, but I doubt he would not know how to put a dying animal out of its misery, and thus a human.

I think Sawyer was a softie deep down and didnt have the heart (no pun intended) to shoot someone in the face/head.

I think it was a gimmick to make the character below Jack, the doctor. Anyone as clever as Sawyer and cynical would not be afraid to put someone out of their misery ... if he was a real person instead of a TV character getting yanked around for entertainment.

I don´t know if it was about making Sawyer below Jack but I remember it being a brilliant piece of dark comedy. I burst out laughing when you heard the Marshall making gagging sounds. I don´t think it was about Sawyer being afraid, Sawyer clearly did the deed, it was Jack who was the one that was unwilling to do it but ended up being forced to.

I remember when I first saw that, thinking, how dumb could Sawyer be?
