Season 3 Series Finale

I just finished rewatching the season 3 finale “Through the Looking Glass.” It’s probably one of the best episodes of the series and actually could work quite well as a series finale if the show had ended at that moment. The realization at the end that all the “flashback” scenes of the episode were actually flash forwards is brilliant, and Jack’s life going to hell after the Island and always wanting another plane to crash so he can be “hero” again is so sad but beautiful and would have been a poetic way for the show to end.

Agree 100%

I was about to quit the show until that final reveal

Actually I felt similarly about each of the successive season finales ... about to quit then the final does something shocking (Locke in the coffin, Juliet MAYBE triggering the bomb)

It was the most shocking season finale I've ever seen.

My mind went nowhere near a "flash forward". I've never even heard of such a thing.

This is my personal pick as best drama series ever.

I do wish the series ended at 5. I didn't care much for 6.

I think people would have been disappointed at the show ending on an unresolved cliffhanger though, as much as I like the s3 finale.

My first viewing of LOST was this exact episode and it's what got me hooked for the rest of the series (I went back later and watched season 1, 2 and 3 after the series was over).

I was familiar enough with the show to understand what appeared to be the basic premise: People survive a plane crash (yeah right), we're shown flashbacks of their life and struggles, they are stranded on an island and want to get back home. So knowing that sparse amount, it was enough to hook me when the Season 3 final episode ended with a flash forward.

I don't know that it would have worked as a finale, unless you think the last episode of Twin Peaks season 2 worked as a finale as well . . .

Season 2 of Twin Peaks proved to be like the greatest cliffhanger of all time since we had to wait 25 years to know what happened next. Something similar could have been done with Lost if Season 3 were the end. They could do a reboot season years later that continues the story decades lster
