It holds up.

I watched this during the original run and am watching it again with my daughter. Sometimes you remember a tv show fondly and it's only nostalgia, you watch it again and cringe. Sometimes you rewatch a show and realize that it was legit good, Lost falls into that category. What surprised me most on the rewatch is how early they foreshadow the ending. There are serious hints in S1. S2 kind of goes in it's own direction. S3 brings the series back on track and they all but rub it in your face. Legit good series that I'm enjoying more the second time.

Just watched the finale, still the best finale of any series I've seen.

Really good to know. Was HUGE fan and hugely disappointed in the last season and ending.I lost 6 years of my life to this show, got totally into online discussions -- the fuselage.com etc -- about symbolism, hidden meanings, connections, etc.

I HAD planned to watch it all again but couldn't bring myself to it, but you have given me new hope.

reply

Yeah it meanders a bit and there are dead branches along the way but overall it's a very well made and entertaining series. You just have to accept it for what it is, a Prime Time broadcast tv show.

I really enjoyed the show and got into all the online forums too like dt123, but I did get annoyed with the ending.. I was just expecting something more original as the rest of the series had put in so many little clues and hints of what might be going on... I enjoyed (most of) the journey of watching the show, but just feel that they had hyped up the ending a bit too much.

reply

I'm cool with the ending..I just had a bit of trouble with the meandering of s5 and 6...and some of the characters decisions feeling like a plot device.
But I just did another rewatch and still can't deny the addictive nature of it all and how the show has a way of staying with you.
It's still among my all time favorites.

reply

Maybe I will have to give it a rewatch too without all the pressure of waiting to see how it will end.

The series did meander but I don't think they were prepared for success after S1. The idea of a tv series with a beginning and end was still a novel idea at the time. Millenium suffered the same way, awesome first season and they had no idea how to keep it going.

I thought season 6 on the whole was just poor. The flash sideways to me was not at all interesting and on rewatching it, I just completely skip them since it has no bearing on the outcome of the story except for the final few episodes. As for the finale, well I wasnt a big fan of it, but it was always going to be a tough task however they chose to end the series. Season one, I still consider the greatest television season in history though.

reply

You skip through it and then claim it had no bearing on the story? Dumb.

I guess reading comprehension isnΒ΄t your forte.

Nothing about the show was poor, make no mistake, Lost was quality television. There are better series NOW, but back then Lost was a standout among network series and really it holds up as it has interesting and genuine characters with depth, complex interpersonal relationships, mystery, eye candy, and they mostly avoid twisty mustache type bad guys. When Charlie died, I felt sad. I never feel sad when a character dies. But not only did I feel sad, I missed him. Ben was an arrogant jerk and master manipulator but highly competent, completely committed to his cause, and almost always right so you had to admire him. Sawyer always seemed to be the underdog but there are a few times like when he stole all the guns just to piss off Jack that make you cheer for the guy. Jack was an arrogant asshole but a competent leader. Kate was so sexy but annoying the way she kept bouncing between Jack and Sawyer. And Locke, he was everything. Truly some of the best characters in any series.

WeΒ΄ll just have to agree to disagree, I did like everything up to the end of 5, even though, it did have parts where the writers looked like they were stalling but season 6 on the whole was just bad.

reply

They were stalling, they had a requirement for "X" number of episodes each season so they had to pad the story to make it fit. It's network television, that's how it works, that's why most of it sucks.
