The Incident/LAX - Bsharp, King, Plasma

Last season - you guys won't have to put up with me much longer! I promise!

1.) "They're coming." To whom is Jacob referring?

2.) Who exactly are all the people at the Temple? Others? Were they all on the island behind that wall the entire time the Losties were on the island?

Until your next rewatch anyway, right? :P

1) The Candidates I'm pretty sure.

2) Yep, they're all Others. Some of them were members of the Others that we knew previously, sent there by Ben when Widmore's mercs were coming to the Island. Some were already living at the Temple.

Don't listen to critics and cynics, danser1. What is this board even HERE for if not to discuss the show?

I look forward to your continued contribution as others ask questions.

In my opinion this was an example of the worst writing of the show. Bordering on "jumping the shark". I mean first they kill off all the other extraneous Losties who had survived Flight 815 crash. But then they bring in completely new groups of people like the Temple dwellers and Brand, Ilana, Caesar, and Zoe, etc. Sheesh, we don't care about all these new guys!

Anyway, I think the purpose of the Temple dwellers was to illustrate the true nature and effect of the MIB/Smoke monster and what would happen if he left the Island.

The Temple dwellers are supposed to be followers of Jacob. But, like the other Others, they are all too willing to mistrust, hate kidnap, murder, poison and otherwise "sin" and do the kinds of bad things Jacob warned against. What made them all turn bad?

Notice that after Jack refuses to be tricked by Dogen into poisoning his own friend Sayid, and after the Smoke Monster comes in and tears the place up, what do all the Temple dwellers do? They almost instantly become followers of the MIB. I think this is meant to illustrate what would happen in the MIB got off the Island. He would manage to persuade a large portion of the people on earth to follow him, kidnapping, murdering and in other ways making this planet a living hell, just like the Island.

Thanks!

As per King's answer on question 1, why would Jacob warn MIB that the Candidates are coming? Is Jacob trying to stick it to him one last time before he dies?

reply

He's basically warning him that his plan to kill him and escape the island isn't going to work, because his candidates are about to be back to the present. So yeah, sticking it to him haha

Let's call it reminding instead of warning.

Didn't half of them choose to die rather than submit to MiB?

the Temple Others and the other Others were IIRC mostly the same group.

Bsharp answer to the second question was pretty spot on to me but I think in regards to your first question it could've been the candidates he was talking about but I've always thought more than likely he was reffering to whidmore coming to the island, he does say Jacob came to see him

I agree with ur57398657. On first watching, I assumed it was Widmore and his army coming that was being foretold.
