No Subject Really

I have a huge problem with the fact that the movie was trying to change church doctrine. It isn't going to change. It's been the same for 2,000 years. I have a lot of gay friends, and I also know former homosexuals. Human rights are one thing, but to completely go against church doctrine is wrong. These people were not born or made gay.

What's a "former homosexual?" I don't understand.
And the movie wasn't trying to change church doctrine. It was based on a true story so it just told what happened.

reply

Someone who was once a homosexual, but is no longer one...I guess.

reply

But homosexual people should be treated exactly the same as regular people. You're one of those people who bugs the hell out of me.

Well, when Christianity first came about, most of Europe was Queer, hell, Nero, the Greek emperor, was married to 2 men, and most priensts were gay, then pressure from certain (few) people caused the occasional ruler to outlaw and non-vaginal/non- procreational sex (because back then, the King feared the Pope), and so people became bigoted, afraid, and homos were "evil." So, doctrine has changed, after all....

while I agree with the sentiment. Nero was Roman, though the practive had become more popular in Rome since the inclusion of Greece into the Roman Republic, which then became the Roman Empire which Nero was the Emperor of. Sorry, but this is my major, can't help but point out the teensy problem there.

As christianity became the major religion in the Empire homosexuality became more of a taboo. While I disagree with the Church's view on homosexuality, I'm pretty sure that it's official stance has always been pretty similar.

Which is not to say that there weren't a lot of gay priests, even a few gay Popes, same as there were Popes that had children; not allowed but they did it anyway. Meet the hypocrisy of the Catholic Church.

Oh you don't think? Then what do you think, they just woke up one morning and decided to be gay? The church doctrine being around for 2,000 years is one thing, but homosexuality has been around for longer, I'm not sure if you knew that.
