The Irish in this film...
Not that I'm a native speaker or anything, but it seemed to me they were speaking "school Irish" which doesn't sound anything like the various dialects you hear in the Gaelacht. Anytime I was in the Gaeltacht I could never make out a word the locals were saying and wondered if they understood "school Irish" let alone the dialect from a different Gaeltacht. Listen to Donegal Irish and Kerry Irish, and it's like the difference between Arabic and Chinese.
Also I've always noticed that except for Inis Meain in the Aran Islands, the locals don't seem to want to speak Irish with visitors. If you speak Irish to them they will answer in English, if at all. Maybe because they can't stand to hear "school Irish".
