'I love you' ***spoiler***

*****Spoiler alert*******

So, at the end did Ash tell Taylor "I love you" like in the brotherly sort of way when a guy feels he's losing his best friend to a woman? Or in the homosexual way? I didn't feel that vibe at all during the whole film, then all of a sudden he blurts this out at the end?? Can someone explain how i totally missed Ash being gay? Thank you.

reply

Maybe when he brings a prostitue in the motel room for a threesome "like in the old days" as he says.
Maybe we suppose to think that he did threesome with Taylor but only to watch Taylor...i don't know...that's my guess.

But what do i know...i'm french-canadian

reply

Nonsense. There is no indication whatsoever that Ash had any homosexual tendencies throughout the movie. I'm pretty sure his "I love you" was in a friendship way. Even Taylor say "He's all I got" referring to Ash when he is in the barn with April. They were really close friends, like brothers.

reply

bevrli I think your the homosexual. Just like Ash and Tay, they did nothing to indicate thy were homosexual, just like you didnt. Although your trying to say they are, so now Im saying you are.

Seriously, the only person who would think of something so stupid like this, would be a homosexual. Are you hiding something? Because Im straight and I didnt think they were gay, they acted like straight friends, apparently you saw more being in that type of ball-game, homosexuality of course is what I refer to as the 'ball-game'...

there was definitely an underlying homoerotic tension to the ash/taylor relationship. this is a part of why he gets so freaked out when taylor appears to be leaving him for thora. there is no overt indication of homosexuality it is much more subtle than that.

@ Mitchysland
So, who cares if the guy asking the question is gay or not...and? You're saying it like it's an insult. People are gay you know...what year are you living in???!!

i don't think it was homo at al. Taylor was all the "family" he ever had. Because of the Childhood trama don't really believe he grew up emotionally. So this girl was "stealing" hus best friend. The only family he ever trusted.

I agree, this was like a brotherly love, think of it ever since they were kids they looked out for each other, they never had anyone they're drifters, they could never get attached to anyone because of this, everyone just left them, I think they just both wanted to be loved, so when Taylor found someone Ashley felt like he had lost it all he didn't have hope for the future.

It's Not About Right, It's Not About Wrong, It's About POWER!

I just saw the movie, excellent by the way. When Taylor said "He's all i got", was a brother type emotion. When Ash said "I love you", he said that i can't hide it any longer and that he could not stand holding these feelings in. Heterosexual guys say i love u man all the time. If there was not some kind of homosexual overtone about his feelings for taylor all these years then why was it so hard to say and that he took birch by gunpoint and went to the lenght that he did. Taylor was going with birch, leaving ash alone like he really did have those feelings ever since he picked him up that time out of jail. He knew then that he had those feelings for him. One line ash said about steeling that red car how he did not want to take it because it was "too gay". Just a cover like so many closet homosexuals do to show their manliness so they won't be discovered for who they really are.

"Can someone explain how i totally missed Ash being gay?"

extremely simple. it's about not seeing the forest for the trees -- when a whole movie is -THAT- gay, you can miss the subtle greyscale nuances of gayness.
