this is a great documentary both in its depth of insight, and the accuracy in its facts, but it is the fact that such voices exits and are reaching out is a testimony that our democracy is still functioning, though slowly dying...
anyway, here are few other good documentary I personally recommand: "Why We Fight" "lesson learned in darkness"
anyone has any other good documentaries about the US political system to recommand? or indeed about any other political systems(UN, China, etc)?
The Corporation Outfoxed Monopoly Men Money Masters The Power of Nightmares Walmart - The High Cost of Low Price Life and Debt Secret History of the Credit Card
The mind is like a parachute, it works better when open.
If you like alternative media, you should check out a television channel called Free Speech TV. I subscribe to Dish Network and it is one of the best channels I have heard of concerning worldy issues. I recommend it if you enjoyed Orwell Rolls in His Grave- that's where I saw this movie, and many other great films.
"manufacturing consent: noam chomsky and the media" deals with the propaganda model directly... a lot of the documentaries the first replier posted have nothing to do with it.
rather be forgotten than remembered for giving in.
The Revolution Will Not Be Televised Our Brand Is Crisis This Is What Democracy Looks Like The Fog Of War The God Who Wasn't There The World According to Bush Power & Terror: Noam Chomsky in our times. The Road To Guantanamo Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price
Best documentary BY FAR is Truth and Lies of 911 by Mike C Ruppert. You can find it on fromthewilderness.com or download it off limewire. Find out about how this 'war on terror' was planned 4 years before the attack ... you can go read "The Grand Chessboard" which is a book by a man who is apart of the Trilateral Commission ( group full of the richest people in the world and most powerful including many past presidents/prime ministers of different countries). In it he describes what the US must do to position itself to be the only superpower in the world in which all countries falls under its power. In it he describes where the next war must take place and that's in the middle east as it's where 75% of the world's natural resources are. Go to amazon.com and read reviews about it.
The really depressing thing is that there are any number of excellent documentaries out there (including the superb Orwell Rolls In His Grave), and yet the same, fascism-by-another-name system that is catigated in documentaries over and over and over again just keeps getting stronger and stronger. It defies logic in the normal sense, but we're not dealing with ANY degree of normalcy these days.
It is all so extremely frustrating. It doesn't seem to matter how many progressive voices scream out across the universe, the super-powerful forces drown them out and continue, unabated, to rape our minds. Corporate concentration just keeps getting more intense, and it's now possible to envision a capitalist world with perhaps 2-3 mega-corporations-cum-governments controlling our minds and absolutely everything else, all with the more-than-willing complicity of token politicians. That's really the essence of Orwell's message in '1984'.
The world is well on its way to an unmitigated disaster. 'Democracy' is laughable, as this film vividly shows. The most powerful politician in the world is a goofy puppet (Dubya Bush) who was never really elected to that post -- TWICE. Our societies are governed by utterly corrupt and criminal media, politicians and corporations, and we are no match for them.
Orwell was a prophet, maybe the first and only real prophet.
Don't be afraid. Really. It doesn't help anything. Fear is driving this whole thing, so try to be relaxed and see what's really going on, then do something about it. Anger can get you off the couch and into action, but not fear.
BTW, "America: Freedom to Fascism" is excellent and came out since "Orwell Rolls in His Grave"
Adam Curtis' "Century of the Self" it's public domain and a free download, same guy that did "Power of Nightmares" - this is one of the most eye-opening documentaries I've ever seen.
