Well this movie (and the series) is often recommended as starters for people who want to delve into the macabre and the gory. So for many of those who have not touched this kind of stuffs before, it is probably disturbing.

And of course, a lot of people, you included, do not like the shaky camera style; some people find it more realistic, it is probably a personal preference thing.

Personally, I find it more repulsive than disturbing; it seemed to aim at inducing physiological reaction rather than psychological ones. Still I find the movie worth watching, since it did a relatively well job of depicting the darker side of humanity, which is in itself fascinating.

Then you should check out BETTER repulsive movies, like this one for instance: Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer... If you like the darker side of humanity, check that one out!

One of the filmmakers who made this movie said in an interview that the recorded home invasion scene in Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer disturbed him when he first saw it and partly inspired him to make these movies. I can see the influence a bit, but the big difference is that, while Mordum is more graphic and goes out of its way to portray more extreme scenarios, Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer feels realistic, is actually thought provoking, delves into the psychology of the main character, gets under your skin and leaves a lot more of an impact than "oh, that was gross."

The effects in Mordum work pretty well, but otherwise it felt like the filmmakers were trying way too hard just to shock people, to the point where it felt like a satire of exploitation films.
