she lives in England now, so it's not real. But she has a great knack for accents I think.

Ann Gillian...Gillian Anderson.

Yes, I can see how you would get the two of them confused.

She does a very convincing Belfast accent.

FYI, Belfast speech has a distinctive sound to it--"ow" sounds morph into a long "i" vowel sound so "house" becomes something close to "hice." "Hi nigh brine kye." Long "a's" become "ah's." Anderson has a line that is something like, "It's for charity." This comes out, "Et's fer chahrity."

There is also a rising inflection at the end of most sentences, a trait peculiar to Northern Ireland, esp. Belfast and the surrounding areas.

I wouldn't call a Belfast accent a brogue. When most people speak of an Irish brogue, they're refering to accents from Dublin or other places in the South. Or they aren't at all familiar with real Irish accents (Cork, Kerry, Galway, all different and recognizable with a bit of practice), and they're thinking of Leprechaun speech, schlock Irish. Bleccchhh.

At any rate, Gillian Anderson did a first rate job and made it look effortless into the bargain. I almost couldn't believe my eyes or ears.

No,
it was terrible. i'm a big Gillian Anderson fan but i also live in Belfast. I don't know if any of the previous replies are from anyone who's actually irish. Her accent in this film is so inconsistent. Painful to watch.

It was a reasonable effort. Sometimes she pulled it off and sometimes a little too much English accent was creeping in. Same goes for Carlyle. But at least they both gave it a good shot.

this was the best accent i have ever heard, better than toms, and certainly miles better than Ronan O'Garas effort. Terrible advert he was in for Asda orange juice!
