This is NOT an upbeat 'boy and his dog' movie

The blurb on Sundance made it seem like a "boy loves dog and melts the hardened hearts around him" flick, which is anything but the case. I assumed with Gillian Anderson and Robert Carlyle it was Americanized enough that it would have, if not a happy, a violence-free ending - but that was SO not the case. Not that I think all movie endings should be tied up in pink satin bows, but the trailer was just so off. I came in from the ICU exhausted, hoping to curl up with my Whippet and get away from sad thoughts for a few hours, only to be horrified by that sudden and brutal act. Not what I needed on this particular Sunday afternoon!

It's not a bad movie, but it's not for soft-hearted dog lovers, either.

I'm watching the movie for the first time, and just saw that scene....it almost made me cry! That poor dog! :'(
