Why won't the aliens come back?

I was mostly confused by one thing. Why won't the aliens come back? Didn't the girl say that it was just a scout ship? How will destroying just one scare a planet's worth of aliens away? I wondered if they were going to grab all the bracelets from the dead aliens and start a group that has been fending them off all these years.

I agree that the aliens would come back at least to investigate what happened to their scout ship.

Stay tuned for Coyboys and Aliens II.

Depends on how the aliens work. They might have hundreds or thousands of scout ships out there. They send out a ship to survey and if / when it returns they make a decision regarding sending more. If they don't come back they chalk it up to technical mishaps, other aliens life forms, unstable planets etc.

This is the same argument I used to defend the sense behind Battle: Los Angeles. While it is a goofy movie, it is less goofy than people claim by this reasoning. Even if only 30 of these scout ships were sent out, they aliens may only require 20 successful missions to make a "profit"...and write off the 10 that had an issue like humans (cowboys or Michelle Rodriguez).

reply

Yup, same explanation used in Battleship. The aliens would *lkely* chuck it up to a loss of a mission and move on to another mission, etc...

reply

well all I can say is..... Look at all the satellites that we spend out into space, some of them make it, some of them burn at the launch pad, some of them just disappear, my guess is as was already said, they chalked it up as a loss and move on, it wasn't as if that ship was packed with that many aliens on board, it might not be worth sending a "mother ship" or a search and rescue party.

reply

Or back even when Europe started colonizing earth I am quite sure a lost queens ship every now and again was not uncommon or unless steered by a cousin of the royal family, any potential loss was just a loss.

I'm sure they were planning to do a sequel to deal with this concept. The aliens lost an entire ship and crew so they would likely investigate and probably retaliate. Unfortunately the movie just barely recouped its budget, so unless it's a mega hit on DVD/Blu-ray/etc. I doubt we'll ever get a sequel.

Judging these Aliens by their behaviour and capabilities they probably forgot what planet's they landed on.

I like that explanation since these aliens are stupid enough to put a loaded wrist gun next to an unrestrained prisoner. And that just happens to be a weapon that can destroy the entire ship.

LOL! Well said, Spyte.

Speaking purely for myself, though, their intellectual limitation could also have been the result of botched genetic engineering in a certain galaxy far, far away. I mean, let's examine their physiology!

Superficially, they're built like the Houks, except for the bifurcated musculature of their legs and primary arms. With the lower right forearm of the latter concealing a retractable dewclaw, similar to the Yevetha. Plus, they have a ventral pair of secondary arms like the Filordi. Right down to the three-fingered hands (which makes them totally unlike the t'landa Til)!

With Olivia Wilde all blowed up...what would be the point?

She died once in the movie and came back, it's easy to believe she could come back for the sequel, and that alone is reason enough to watch it. (if you don't agree, you're either so uptight you squeak when you walk or you're gay, and even if you're gay, she's still bad hot).

Is interesting the OP thinking. We can think that maybe they are like 200 light years away or something, so it takes them like 400 years or something to get to Earth. Let's assume that for some physically unknown reasons, the information of what happened on Earth to their alien scouts and scout ship travels faster than the speed of light to them, then they almost instantly know and decide to get to Earth to invade it or something. The events took place in 1873, assuming they get here in 400 years, they will arrive at 2273 or something.

Sorry, but you're an idiot. First off, she specifically says in the film that she's not sure about being able to regenerate her body in human form which implies that there are limitations to her regenerative capabilities. Secondly, she makes a point of saying goodbye to Jack because she knows the explosion of the ship is going to be so massive that there is no chance of her body being able to regenerate. Finally, your moronic assertion that anyone who doesn't agree with you is either uptight or gay (a concept you clearly don't even understand if you think gay men are attracted to women) just makes you look like a dimwit, regardless of whether you think you're being funny. It's a good thing you're not a filmmaker because it's obvious that you can barely manage to dress yourself in the morning let alone assemble a plot that makes any sense at all. But I suppose I should commend the mentally handicapped for trying to join in the discussion like anyone else, so uh, good job?

Scout ship doesn't come back = better not go there it's dangerous - too obvious for words

I always thought it was a scout ship as in independent contractors and not affiliated to a bigger organization or alien company. When they get the gold, which they use it as some kind of currency, other prospectors come to try to cash in like this group did; and pretty soon the planet is filled up with bigger and more expansive operations. It reflects the 1849 gold rush, in which the independent prospectors started mining for gold in California, then word spread about California being the place for gold and everybody headed there.

The Aliens did not report back, because there was nobody to report back too. Its like if me and a group of guys think there is gold in northern Alaska, we go and explore our secret location (because we want to keep the gold for ourselves), if we find gold everybody and their mother will be up there to get them some, if we never come back, chance are no one will ever go up there because it was my individual discovery, and I did not tell anyone.

We are a little blip in the universe, and as long as we are that little blip anonymity keeps us safe. Once that group of aliens started announcing there was gold on our little blip, more greedy gangs of aliens would start arriving - since she blew up the ship, word did not get out and we stayed a little meaningless blip.

I find your possible explanation very plausible.
