Is this anyone else's favorite anime?

It certainly is mine. If not, what is your favorite? I would love more recommendations.

Just watching it (15 episodes seen yet) and it really is great! A bit similar about the atmosphere from the same author team is Serial Experiments: Lain. Also Ergo Proxy should have a similar feeling, but I haven't seen it yet, going for it after I finish this one :).

For me, this is one of the few animes series or anime movie or ova, who has the quality of high literature. This tops most other anime projects who tried to be artsy. Ergo Proxy, has some interseting ideas, but it indludges himself in an endless forced talking about metaphysics until the viewer get confused and so those who end up liking it are mostly liking it for the "ah, artsy anime" argument. It really sad that there are some reviews in youtube that are saying that ergo proxy is what texhnolyze should have been. Texhnolyze director next project is trash of the worst kind, overrated trash of the worst kind that is! Those who love it are confusing aesthetic meaning with overall depthness. What merit does it have? the story is just an excuse to get the the main dojo samurai's killing in the cruelst manner you can think of japan's "best" warriors, one after another. The manga is even worse than the anime, with it's "it has been done already" end. Yes, the era was violent, and if someone decide to portray the era, at least portray all it's sides and with your thoughts/messages, not just an extravaganza of stylish animated violence. As for wolf's rain it is nice, but not as deep as texhnolyze, and frankly, if i was outsider to anime i think i would had not liked it.

I truly think texhnolyze is one of the highest hidden gems in anime, especially in the era it was done and forward. I am saying this because such animes are important in our times when anime as a genre produce simply overwhelming legion of harem/fanservice titles. Not that quality anime had died completley. There are attempts to produce a bit more quantity of good artisticly valid titles like, skullmen, seirei no moribito, mushishi, flag, The Boy Who Saw the Wind, kemonozume, dennocoil. And a tad quantity to produce high art anime like Aoi bungaku series, house of five leaves (don't look at me like that), tori no uta, ghost hound, and generally most traditional japanese horror stories animes that were produced in 2006-2007. But these attempts are far from equal to the typical type of animes. One thing special to texh is that you can relate it to many famous books or movies in certain part of it but as a whole it stands on his own. Angel's egg had done the same thing in the symbolism erea 18 years before texhnolyze. And these two works are among the highest anime has to offer.

Yes, Angels Egg is another one of my favorites when it comes to anime and i agree with you how that one reviewer wished Texhnolyze was more like Ergo, I completely disagree and find Texhnolyze a better anime by a long shot. I just wish they made more animes like Tex but it seems harder and harder to find. Ive seen haibane Renmei and absolutely loved it (and some people find that show boring which i cannot understand). I own Mushishi and still havent gotten around to watching that one. Should definitely start. Thank you guys for your recommendations and thoughts. I really appreciate it.
