Differences between U.K. version and U.S. versions

Is it just me or does it seem like Ramsay is much more mildly tempered in the UK? Perhaps nicer?

reply

I wouldn't be at all surprised if they emphasize the conflicts for US audiences. We're a fairly vulgar culture. We can't tolerate an off word, but as long as somebody is hating somebody else we're happy.

After watching the show for a while it begins to come across as scripted. Ramsay's expressions and the setups are always the same couple dozen.

I see it on BBC-America but I think it's still the US version except with the "shxt"s put back in.

Yeah, I thought the same about the US version. They focus much more on the conflict than anything. And the owners act as if this guy just walked in and started screaming to them about their food without their consent first. They know what they're getting themselves into but they still act surprised when it happens.

The US version sucks.

Punishment was pleasure.
I'd do it all over again.

I've seen all the US version episodes and the first 2 seasons of UK. Unless I'm missing something, it seems like the revisit episodes of the UK version are just repeats. Been watching on Netflix but the first 2 seasons of revisits look like the exact same episodes with a different into. Anyone else?

reply

You're right. In the revisits, it's basically a repeat of the original with about 5 minutes of updates at the end.

I was just watching Oscar's, and I was struck by the scene in which the assistant chef was cracking Gordon up with his bingo calls. I thought it was a very sweet moment, and a great example of the heart and sincerity that somehow got left behind in the UK when the show moved across the pond.

Fox and Amy's Baking Company really spoiled things for everyone.

I disagree with all you whiney crumpets.

The U.S. Version is fine. Sure it's scripted for TV just like all reality shows are (except maybe COPS).

I enjoy it, he isn't an a-hole the whole time by any means.

Not quite as good as Restaurant Impossible but enjoyable none the less.

Couldn't get into the British Version because of the heavy thick accents, no offense to any of ya

Just another day at the office for old Harry.
