North Shore of Hawaii worth visiting?

I'll be in Oahu for 2 days this fall. Should I spend the entire time in Honolulu or make the trip to North Shore? What do you recommend doing on the North Shore?

Hope you had a nice trip! For anyone else interested...

I just returned from a Maui/Oahu trip. Stayed 4 nights on the North Shore (Turtle Bay Resort, where this series was partly filmed). Drove down to Pearl Harbor and Waikiki for a day.

My advice to anyone trying to decide on a non-surfing Hawaiian trip:

Stay on The Big Island, Maui, and/or Kauai. Do a day trip to Oahu. Pick a Gray Line tour that does whatever interests you, but make sure it includes Pearl Harbor (at least the Arizona Memorial).

If you really want to stay on Oahu, don't stay in Honolulu (Waikiki). It's New York City with palm trees, including the traffic. Not sure what other choices you have. North Shore is pretty much Turtle Bay Resort or private rentals, so you'll have to research. The resort was nice, but of 5 places I've stayed so far, it's my least favorite and was probably the most expensive.

The "must do" things if you stay on Oahu are:
- visit the USS Arizona Memorial (it's free, but limited, go early)
- lunch at a North Shore shrimp truck (Giovanni's was awesome)
- go to Haleiwa
- try hard to check out The Ron Artis Family Band
- compare Aoki's and Matsumoto's for Shave Ice
